Student answer (Band 6.5)
Sometimes it is a good way to pay someone to do things people don't want to do or don't have time for, related to household chores or taking care of kids. It is argued that people should do this work themselves or give it to other individuals. I will explain in the upcoming paragraph.
To begin with, providing work to others is a good way to save time. To explain, in the contemporary era, people go to work every day, which makes them feel exhausted; they are not able to do both household chores and their jobs. For work-life balance, they hire workers who can help them in the house. For example, working women can do both household and professional work if they find help with housework; they can feel relaxed, energetic and give more time to the family.
On the other hand, individuals should do things by themselves as it is a good exercise. To justify this, with an increasing number of professional jobs, people nowadays sit in chairs and do work; as a result, they need to exercise to stay physically fit. Due to a lack of exercise, people are struggling with obesity, which can harm them from the inside. For instance, according to research from the University of Oxford, about 78% of individuals in the USA are obese. Thus, exercise plays a vital role in the human body.
To conclude, it is a better idea to hire someone for tasks such as household chores, as it is beneficial for work-life balance; it is also important to do things themselves. Although I believe that paying someone for small work would be nice, people should not compromise on doing physical work.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: whether it is a good way to provide work and whether people should do these things themselves. The position is clear, though the development is somewhat simplistic. The argument regarding providing work is well-linked to work-life balance, and the counter-argument regarding physical exercise is relevant. However, the ideas could be extended further; for instance, the discussion on 'providing work' could explore the economic benefits or the nature of the service industry more deeply. The conclusion is a bit brief and does not fully synthesize the two sides of the argument, but all requirements of the task are met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be smoother. For example, the link between the 'University of Oxford' research and the broader argument about household chores is a bit abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and paragraphing is used appropriately throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific language like 'work-life balance', 'contemporary era', and 'physically fit'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler phrasing (e.g., 'do things', 'small work'). There are no significant errors in word choice that impede communication, but the vocabulary lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score. More varied synonyms and collocations would enhance the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over basic grammar, and most sentences are error-free. However, there are occasional minor errors, such as 'harm them from the inside' (which is slightly unnatural) and some punctuation issues. The range of complex structures is somewhat limited, and the writing would benefit from more varied subordination and conditional structures to demonstrate higher grammatical flexibility. Despite these minor issues, the meaning is always clear, and the errors do not interfere with the reader's understanding.
