Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 161 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is severely limited. While you touch upon the prompt by mentioning hiring help for household chores and childcare, the discussion is superficial. You do not fully address the two-part question: whether this is a good way of providing work for others and whether people should do these things themselves. The arguments are underdeveloped and lack the necessary depth, analysis, and examples required for a Task 2 essay. To improve, you must expand your points with logical reasoning and ensure you answer every part of the prompt thoroughly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into short, disjointed paragraphs. While there is a basic attempt at logical progression using transition words like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly', the flow is interrupted by fragmented sentences and a lack of cohesive devices. The ideas within the paragraphs are not well-linked, making the text feel like a series of isolated statements rather than a cohesive argument. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the subject of the sentences shifts confusingly between the friend, the maid, and the children. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring clear transitions between sentences would greatly enhance the readability of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying on simple terms like 'busy', 'people', and 'things'. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or an attempt to use precise vocabulary related to the topic of employment or domestic responsibilities. Phrases such as 'doing a job or business' and 'daily basic wages' are somewhat awkward. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary and collocations, such as 'outsourcing domestic tasks' or 'economic opportunities', and avoid repeating the same words throughout the text. Your current range is sufficient for basic communication but lacks the flexibility required for higher scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'Mostly, People are busy in their lives because of doing a job', 'that why they pay', and 'he has to go job 9:00 am to 8:pm'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of apostrophes and sentence boundaries. The verb tenses are sometimes inconsistent, and there are issues with subject-verb agreement. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct word order, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect preposition usage.
