Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, many people often prefer to hire someone who can do household chores because they don't have enough time for various tasks such as, looking after children. It is obvious to help someone who is in dire need of work, while some people prefer to do things personally.

To begin with, many working women may face several difficulties in terms of managing things along with performing jobs. For example, a female doctor cannot look after her children because of busy schedule and on call duties. Additionally, when she is back at home, she needs rest to relax her mind, as it is quite hard for her to manage multiple responsibilities all at once. As a result, it is a viable option to employ someone at home, and this step significantly reduces the burden on healthcare working females. Also, it provides opportunities to those women who are suffering from poverty, by doing this way helps to fulfill their families' financial need.

On the other hand, some people like to do household chores themselves, it may be because of trust issues or they like their own work more compared to others. For instance, many female teachers often have morning jobs and their timetable is decided for them, then after arriving at home they love to cook and serve their families personally. As this passion does not let anyone interfere in their duties, they indulge themselves in household chores. Moreover, children most of the time need their parents' attention especially mothers. Therefore, this is the substantial way to provide attention and also educate children at a very young age.

In conclusion, while lessening the burden on female doctors would be a better approach because a single human cannot handle things simultaneously. Whereas, some women are fond of doing household duties, and educating children about these responsibilities is a useful measure. Also those who need work because of financial difficulties can help their own families.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of providing work for others and the reasons why some prefer to perform tasks themselves. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited by a narrow focus on specific professions (doctors and teachers) rather than a broader discussion of the societal implications. While the arguments are relevant, they could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The conclusion is slightly repetitive and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented in the body paragraphs. Overall, the response meets the requirements of the task but lacks the depth of analysis expected at higher levels.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to link ideas. However, there are some instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the sentence structure becomes fragmented. Despite these minor issues, the overall arrangement is coherent and the paragraphing is appropriate.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use less common items like 'dire need', 'viable option', and 'simultaneously'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'doing this way helps' and 'substantial way to provide attention'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing. To improve, the student should focus on more natural collocations and a wider range of academic vocabulary to demonstrate greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with article usage, subject-verb agreement, and sentence fragments (e.g., 'As this passion does not let anyone interfere in their duties, they indulge themselves in household chores'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some comma splices and awkward phrasing that detract from the overall fluency. The errors do not prevent understanding, but they are frequent enough to keep the score in the 6.0 range. Increased attention to sentence construction and proofreading for minor errors would be beneficial.
