Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, reaching only 118 words. Because the essay is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence, it fails to address all parts of the task. The ideas presented, such as the economic benefit of hiring help, are relevant but remain severely underdeveloped due to the lack of length. The position is stated in the introduction, but the body paragraphs are not fully formed, and the conclusion is absent. To improve, you must expand on your arguments with specific examples and ensure you complete the essay structure.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay shows some basic attempts at organization, such as using 'On the one hand' to introduce a point. However, the progression is interrupted because the text ends abruptly. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas effectively, and the paragraphing is incomplete. The mechanical nature of the transitions used suggests a limited ability to manage logical flow. To reach a higher band, you need to ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence, supporting details, and a concluding thought, all linked by a variety of cohesive devices.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. Phrases like 'take services from others' and 'simple household work' are functional but repetitive and somewhat simplistic. There are minor errors in word choice, such as 'people life' instead of 'people's lives'. To improve, you should aim to use more sophisticated collocations and a wider range of vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'domestic assistance' or 'socio-economic impact', rather than relying on basic descriptive terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures. However, there are frequent errors in punctuation and grammar, such as missing apostrophes ('people life') and incorrect spacing before punctuation marks. The sentence structure is often basic, and the incomplete nature of the text makes it difficult to assess a full range of grammatical control. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct subject-verb agreement and punctuation, before attempting more complex, multi-clause sentences.
