Student answer (Band 6.0)

These days it is possible for people to pay someone to do tasks they are supposed to do but they can't because of their busy schedules or unwillingness. This practice is reasonably better and I am completely in its favour as people can recruit someone to do simple and recurring jobs in their daily life. This helps them focus on tasks which are much important and need more attention.

Hiring a person or an agency to do time consumings tasks for an individual is very helpful to save time and energy. It can make a person's life more efficient and productive. For instance, If a person is spending three hours every day to prepare meals for themselves, they can instead pay someone to do it for them. This will help them save three hours daily which can then be used for something productive.

People should try hire somebody to do things they don't want to do, or don't have time for it, rather than doing it themselves. Also, if a person is hiring a professional for a certain task, there are high chance that it will be done in a better way. For example, paying somebody for a haircut will be a better choice over cutting own hair if an individual doesn't have expertise in it.

In conclusion, paying somebody to do things you don't have time, energy or expertise for will be a better choice over doing those tasks themselves. It will help save time and efforts, which can eventually be used for much essential jobs.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: whether this is a good way to provide work and whether people should do these tasks themselves. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you clearly state your position in favor of outsourcing, the arguments remain quite general. For example, you mention that hiring someone is 'efficient' and 'productive,' but you could have explored the economic benefits for the service providers or the potential social implications of outsourcing domestic labor to provide a more nuanced response. The ideas are relevant but lack the depth required for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'For instance' and 'In conclusion,' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the two main questions could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure feels a bit repetitive in its phrasing. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a more distinct focus that builds upon the previous one.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'recurring jobs,' 'expertise,' and 'efficient.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly unnatural collocation or word choice, such as 'much important' (should be 'more important') and 'much essential jobs' (should be 'more essential' or 'crucial'). You rely on fairly common vocabulary throughout. To reach a higher band, aim to incorporate more precise, topic-specific collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'try hire' (should be 'try to hire'), 'time consumings tasks' (should be 'time-consuming tasks'), and 'there are high chance' (should be 'there is a high chance'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of infinitives to improve your accuracy.
