It is sometimes possible to pay somebody to do things you don't want to do, or don't have time to do, for example, household chores or looking after children.

Is this a good way of providing work for others?

Should people do these things themselves?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this busy society, people choose to pay someone to do carry out household chores or to look after children due to busy schedule or no desire to do some of the activities. While this activity may provide employment to others, I believe its recommend to do take control and do those activities when possible.

As most the adults have busy life working due to tough work life, its hard to manage work life balance. Some individual's are more busy at work and by the time they are home or when have day off, they prefer to relax and not do house chores or spend time with kids. Some of these chores help burn calories which is good for body after doing sedentary work. Spending time with kids will help develop bond and also energize you and will help take off mind from work. Its best to have someone do other chores or maybe use those services a few times when you cannot do due to tight deadlines at work or due to physical limitations. This would help others with supplemental employment and also help house clean and keep company with kids when necessary.

If you have family, tasks can be divided which would help with responsibilities and help complete chores faster. They can use rest of the time relaxing or doing other group activities.

In conclusion, while there are advantages of creating new employment opportunities in society, its best to take up some chores individually and only use these services when required. This will not only save cost but also help to keep house or kids in order that you like by not relying on other individual.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the impact on employment and the personal responsibility of performing chores. You maintain a clear position throughout, advocating for a balanced approach. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the discussion on employment is brief, and the argument regarding personal responsibility could be more deeply explored with more specific examples or nuanced reasoning. While the task is addressed, the ideas remain at a general level, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, ensure that each main point is supported by a clear, well-explained example or a more detailed analysis of the implications.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'While this activity' and 'In conclusion', to link your thoughts. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is slightly abrupt. To improve, work on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to create smoother transitions between sentences and paragraphs, and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'these chores', 'those services') is always clear to the reader.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'sedentary work', 'work-life balance', and 'supplemental employment'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'its recommend to do take control' (should be 'it is recommended to take control') and 'keep house or kids in order'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and there is a lack of more sophisticated or idiomatic expressions that would elevate the response. Focusing on collocations and more precise terminology will help improve your score in this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a positive step. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'As most the adults' (should be 'As most adults'), 'Some individual's are more busy' (should be 'Some individuals are busier'), and 'its hard' (should be 'it is hard'). These errors are noticeable and occur in both simple and complex sentences. While these errors do not generally impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and the consistent use of apostrophes for contractions and possession.
