Student answer (Band 7.0)

In modern societies, paying others to perform certain duties like household chore and childcare, has become increasingly common. Without any doubt, it is a great way of creating employment opportunities however, it also raise concerns about sense of responsibility and family bonding.

On the one hand, hiring people to perform basic household work like cleaning, laundry, cooking as well as for taking care of children helps individuals to save time. In this competitive era, people are always swamped in their busy schedule to make progress in their life and household responsibilities can take up major part of their day, leaving less time to boost their productivity. Thus, taking household help saves both their time and energy to focus on career goals. Apart from this, a major proportion of population is not qualified to attain high paying white-collar jobs therefore, they rely on these minor jobs to earn their livelihood. Thus, these job opportunities help them to take care of their family without considering financial constraints. Moreover, rise in employment opportunities further helps to decrease the crime rates. Since everyone will be able to land a job irrespective of their academic qualifications, there are less chances that people will consider felonies like robbery, theft, chain snatching to earn money. Consequently, the society will become a safer place to live.

On the other hand, tasks like cleaning, cooking are not merely chores instead these activities teach qualities like disciple, management and responsibility. If people will keep hiring others to perform these general tasks, they will lack on developing these qualities. Furthermore, the hiring of nurses, nannies to take care of their loved ones, will weaken the family bonds. The activities like taking care of the children and elderly are the duties that form a bond of attachment and benevolence within the family. Without these, the basic family responsibilities will be compromised and people will eventually turn into money making machines.

In conclusion, hiring others to make life easy is a quite good way of generating employment opportunities however, these should not be allowed to completely compromise on sense of responsibilities and healthy family environment. A balanced approach including limited employment for other, keeping oneself involves in the family matters is more sensible.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed both parts of the prompt clearly, providing a balanced view on the economic benefits of hiring help versus the personal and familial implications of doing so. Your position is consistent throughout the essay. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the argument regarding employment opportunities for those without higher education and the counter-argument about the loss of personal responsibility. To reach a higher band, ensure that your examples are slightly more specific; for instance, instead of mentioning 'chain snatching' as a general crime, you could briefly explain how economic stability directly impacts local community safety.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Apart from this', and 'Consequently' to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two main arguments. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using more varied referencing. For example, in the second paragraph, the transition between the benefits of hiring help and the societal impact on crime could be smoother to avoid a list-like feel.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision, using terms like 'white-collar jobs', 'financial constraints', and 'benevolence'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'keep hiring others' (should be 'continue to hire') and 'keeping oneself involves' (should be 'involved'). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, some phrases are slightly awkward. Focusing on more natural collocations and refining your use of academic terminology will help you move toward a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical slips throughout the text, such as 'it also raise concerns' (should be 'raises') and 'household chore' (should be plural 'chores'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary comma after 'childcare' in the first sentence. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing your control over subject-verb agreement and pluralization will significantly improve your accuracy.
