Should people do these things themselves?

Student answer (Band 6.0)
There are options available in the market where you can sometimes pay someone to do stuff for you and save time. People have busy schedules and don't have sufficient time for themselves, so they prefer hiring someone to do the household chores for them and make their life easy. You can also hire a babysitter to take care of children or elderly. This is a benefit for the hired person as it serves as an employment for them.
A lot of people these days have a busy lifestyle, so they don't get enough time to relax or spend time with their families. In such cases, people prefer hiring house help and pay them to do household stuff for them in order to save time. For example, in India this is very common as there is plenty of hired househelp available at affordable rates. This creates a long term way for maids to earn income and feed their families. This also creates a community of labor and provides a sense of job security as people are dependent on them.
However, this has some long term disadvantages as well. People become so lazy and physically dependent on these hired help that they stop doing most of the things themselves. This causes reduced physical activity and affects their overall fitness. All future generations wouldn't know how to take care of themselves as they would rely entirely on maids. This will make it difficult for them to manage things when there is no help available. Doing things for ourselves also makes us independent and mentally strong to face difficulties in life but this mentality of being dependent on someone else will affect our abilities.
In the end I would like to say that it is good to hire someone to improve our quality of life and provide job to them. However, it should be done in moderation and only for things which are genuinely required.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of providing employment and the question of whether people should perform these tasks themselves. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the economic benefit is mentioned, it could be explored with more depth regarding the broader societal impact. Similarly, the argument about personal independence is valid but relies on generalisations about 'laziness' rather than a more nuanced discussion of time management or life skills. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported by more detailed reasoning or specific, varied examples beyond the mention of domestic help in India.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'For example', and 'In such cases' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, though the connection between the economic benefits and the personal independence argument could be bridged more effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different aspects of the prompt, which helps the reader follow the argument easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'employment', 'job security', and 'physical activity'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler, repetitive phrasing such as 'do things', 'do stuff', and 'household chores'. To improve, the writer should aim for more precise and sophisticated collocations to avoid informal language like 'stuff' and to demonstrate a broader lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are recurring grammatical errors, such as 'it serves as an employment' (should be 'as employment') and 'provide job to them' (should be 'provide jobs'). There are also minor issues with article usage and pluralisation. The control of grammar is generally good, and these errors do not impede communication, but the range of complex structures is somewhat restricted. Increasing the variety of sentence types and ensuring subject-verb agreement would help elevate the score.
