Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the benefits of hiring help and the reasons for doing tasks oneself. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. The argument regarding the financial burden of hiring help is somewhat confusingly linked to 'health issues,' which lacks logical support. Furthermore, the introduction is poorly structured, and the conclusion does not clearly synthesize the two sides of the argument. While the task is addressed, the lack of depth and the unclear position in the conclusion prevent a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The introduction is fragmented and lacks a clear thesis statement. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'On the one hand', 'Secondly', 'In conclusion'), they are often used mechanically or incorrectly. For instance, the transition between the financial burden of hiring help and mental health is abrupt and lacks a clear connection. Paragraphing is present, but the internal flow of ideas within paragraphs is often disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument smoothly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect collocations, such as 'mostly people hired' instead of 'most people hire' and 'individual works doing by themselves' instead of 'individuals doing the work themselves.' The range of vocabulary is limited, and the student struggles to use more sophisticated or precise language to express complex ideas. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and the frequent errors in word choice limit the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people faces more mental health problems'), tense usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain structural errors, such as the sentence fragment in the introduction: 'In upcoming paragraphs before conclusion.' While the student attempts some complex structures, they are often inaccurate. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas. The high frequency of errors indicates a lack of control over basic grammatical rules.
