Student answer (Band 7.0)
Nowadays, paying someone else to do the tasks you do not want to do or do not have time to do like household chores or looking after children rather than doing it yourself has become increasingly common. This essay will discuss why it is a good way of providing work to others and whether people should do it themselves.
Firstly, I believe that paying others to do these tasks is a good way of providing employment opportunities. The people who do not have work, can still earn this way. Many people earn their living by providing services such as cleaning, babysitting and gardening. This allows them to have a regular source of income and support themselves and their families. Another benefit is that people can use their time more effectively. For example, a busy professional may hire a cleaner to do household chores and use that extra time to focus on work or spend time with their family.
On the other hand, I believe that people should do some of these tasks themselves when they have enough time. One reason is that doing household chores can help people become more responsible and independent. For instance, children and young adults can learn useful life skills by cleaning their rooms, cooking and doing laundry. Another reason is that doing these tasks themselves can help people save money. Instead of paying someone to clean their house every week, they can do it themselves and use the money for other important expenses.
In conclusion, paying other people to perform unwanted or time-consuming tasks is a good way of creating employment and can also save valuable time. However, people should still do some tasks themselves because this can help them become independent and reduce their expenses.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position on both whether it is a good way to provide work and whether people should perform these tasks themselves. The ideas are relevant and supported by logical reasoning, such as the economic benefits for service providers and the developmental benefits for individuals. The essay is well-structured and maintains a consistent focus on the task throughout. To reach a higher band, the development of ideas could be slightly more nuanced, perhaps by exploring the societal implications of outsourcing care or the potential for social inequality, rather than focusing primarily on individual benefits.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic sentence, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. The referencing is clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate. The flow is smooth, and the relationship between ideas is well-managed, meeting the requirements for a high band in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is sufficient and appropriate for the task. You use a range of relevant terms such as 'employment opportunities', 'regular source of income', and 'time-consuming tasks'. While the vocabulary is accurate and conveys your meaning clearly, it is somewhat functional and lacks a wider range of less common or more sophisticated lexical items. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations or academic synonyms to demonstrate a higher level of lexical flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay demonstrates a good control of grammar with a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and the punctuation is generally accurate. There are no significant errors that impede communication. To achieve a higher score, you could incorporate a greater variety of complex grammatical structures, such as conditional sentences or more varied subordinate clauses, to show more flexibility in your writing.
