IELTS Writing Task 2 question
It is sometimes possible to pay somebody to do things you don't want to do, or don't have time to do, for example, household chores or looking after children.
Is this a good way of providing work for others?
Should people do these things themselves?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this fast developing nation, people are often prioritising their office work and businesses leading to insufficient time for household chores and taking responsibilities of their children. The continuous competition to get better day by day is increasing making people forgotten about other necessary responsibilities for their families.
To begin with, individuals travel long distances for earning money and to carry out their expenses. Due to lack of time, some people had to keep maids or workers to complete the daily tasks such as washing clothes and utensils, mopping the floor and even cooking sometimes. This might save their efficient time and they could solely look after their work.
Secondly, it also has a positive side as it provides work to the needy and unemployed person. For example, poor people might not be well educated due to their insufficient funds. Thus, nobody would hire them to do corporate works or in the businesses because they don’t have enough knowledge. As a result, they may find opportunities to work locally doing household chores. In cases when both the parents are working, they may search for a babysitter to look after their child. This becomes a huge help for the lower class people. Moreover, the unemployment rate gets declined by providing the work to these people.
Furthermore, totally depending on others is not a good sign of healthy lifestyle. People should be habitual about their daily activities making it easy for them when the hired individual is not present.
To sum up, paying someone to do our tasks or care for children is a beneficial practice as it creates employment opportunities and help busy individuals manage their responsibilities. However, people should still remain capable of performing basic routine tasks themselves rather than depending on others entirely.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of providing work for others and the necessity of personal responsibility. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that hiring help provides employment for the needy, the argument could be strengthened by exploring the broader economic or social implications. Similarly, the section on why people should do things themselves is brief and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, ensure that each main point is supported by more detailed explanation or specific, illustrative examples rather than general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'Secondly,' and 'Furthermore,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the economic benefit of hiring help and the personal responsibility argument is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'these people') is always precise will enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific terms like 'unemployment rate' and 'household chores.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'efficient time' (which is unnatural) and 'corporate works' (should be 'corporate work'). Additionally, phrases like 'making people forgotten' are grammatically incorrect and impact the precision of your expression. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more sophisticated vocabulary to express complex ideas, rather than relying on basic phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'people had to keep maids' (should be 'have to hire'), 'unemployment rate gets declined' (should be 'declines'), and 'help busy individuals' (should be 'helps'). There are also issues with article usage and verb forms, such as 'taking responsibilities of their children' (should be 'taking responsibility for'). While these errors do not prevent understanding, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage.
