Should people do these things themselves?

Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, it is feasible to hire a house help to do household work or take care of children if someone is too busy to do it or simply doesn't prefer to do it. This is certainly seen as positive because it creates employment for others, and people should get help with such work because it gives them the liberty to do whatever they want and can reduce their stress.
In this fast paced world, where many people are losing their jobs to the hands of technological advancement, and providing them with work is beneficial for the overall well being of a society. As the ratio of unemployment increases, hiring a house help is equally important for both the parties. On the one hand, it gives employees money to support their family or use it for anything crucial. On the other hand, people get the freedom to spend quality time with their family or utilise that time to pursue a hobby. For example, the government should introduce a reliable source to hire trustworthy house help that is helpful for the overall economy, as it can reduce unemployment.
In regard to whether people should do these things or not, in my opinion people should definitely hire help because it can give them a stress free atmosphere and they can focus more. In order to understand this, going to a house where dishes are done, clothes are washed, food is cooked, children are bathed and fed, it creates a sense of contentment naturally. Whereas going to a house where everything has to be done after work can lead to unwanted frustration.
In a nutshell, it is common to hire someone to take over all the housework for you. As it is a source of income for them and also gives people pressure-free time for themselves.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt directly: whether hiring help provides work for others, and whether people should do these things themselves. The student establishes a clear position in the introduction, agreeing that it creates employment and reduces stress. Ideas are extended and supported, such as mentioning the context of technological advancement and the psychological benefits of a clean, well-managed home. However, some arguments tend to over-generalise or remain slightly under-developed, particularly the example regarding government intervention which lacks depth. Overall, the prompt is fully covered with clear reasoning throughout, aligning well with the descriptors for Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are coherently structured into an introduction, body paragraphs addressing each part of the prompt, and a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'In this fast paced world', 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In regard to whether' are used effectively to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating the economic angle from the personal preference angle. Referencing is generally clear, though paragraph transitions could sometimes be smoother, placing this comfortably in the Band 7.0 range.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate to sufficient range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'technological advancement', 'unemployment', 'contentment', and 'frustration'. There are occasional awkward word choices or collocations, such as 'hire a house help' (better phrased as 'hire household help' or 'employ a domestic helper') and 'pressure-free time'. Spelling is generally accurate, and errors do not impede communication. The lexical control matches the requirements for Band 6.5, leaning towards Band 7.0 due to the effective integration of topic-specific terminology.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures successfully (e.g., 'where many people are losing their jobs...', 'if someone is too busy'). There are some grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'that is helpful for the overall economy' and the sentence fragment in the conclusion ('As it is a source of income...'). However, these errors rarely impede communication and the majority of simple sentences are accurate. This performance reflects the criteria for Band 6.0.
