Should people do these things themselves?

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Undoubtedly, In this modern era, where each family member need to work to fullfill needs of the family, people do not have time to do minor household chores. People believe that hiring of the house keeping staff or care takers not only help them, but also provide a source of income to other people. I firmly believe that this is a good way to provide employment to some people and i shall expatiate the rationals to support this statement in the following paragraphs.

Admittedly, there are umpteen reasons the support this statement. Firstly, it provides financial support to students for their higher education. To be more precise, college going students can work as a part- time care taker or house keeper, and remuneration from this helps them to contribute in their school fee as well as they will also create a sense of gratification. Moreover, house keeping or child care requires practical experience more than qualification. Therefore, people who have experience of handling babies can easliy work in this job without any qualification. For instance, a survey was conducted in 2001 which stated that a person who have practical experience of handling babies is more efficient in work as compared to college graduates who studies about how to take of baby.

I firmly believe that people should provide work to other people if they have enough resources. Having a full time jobs, comes with alot of stress and pressure, so hiring someone to do your unnecessary task not only spare you some time for yourself but also provides mental peace. But for these needs extravagant charges oeing to which it is better to hire helping staff on your working days and when you have days off, these things can be done by yourself.

In conclusion, it can be reiterated that hiring staff to look after your kids or to do household chores provides financial support to others but is also comes with the higher chanrges. it is better to hire staff on ocassional basis than regualarly.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task, discussing both whether hiring help is a good way to provide work for others and whether people should do these tasks themselves. A clear position is established in the introduction and maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are supported with relevant explanations and examples, such as the mention of college students working part-time. However, the development of ideas could be slightly more rigorous. For instance, the reference to a 2001 survey is somewhat vague and unsupported by specific details, which places the essay firmly within Band 6 territory. The response successfully covers the prompt requirements without major omissions, providing a balanced perspective on the benefits of employment versus the advantages of handling chores independently.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organised into logical paragraphs with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'Admittedly', 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion are at times somewhat mechanical or faulty, as seen in minor awkwardness in transitions like 'But for these needs extravagant charges oeing to which'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct main points, but the overall logical progression between sentences occasionally feels slightly disjointed due to phrasing issues. This aligns well with the Band 6 descriptor, where the overall arrangement is coherent, but cohesion can be mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'expatiate', 'remuneration', and 'gratification'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'fullfill' instead of 'fulfil', 'house keeping' instead of 'housekeeping', 'rationals' instead of 'rationale', 'oeing' instead of 'owing', 'chanrges' instead of 'charges', 'ocassional' instead of 'occasional', and 'regualarly' instead of 'regularly'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score. The writer successfully communicates their message while showing a willingness to use varied vocabulary, fitting the Band 6 profile.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in punctuation, subject-verb agreement, and article usage. Examples include 'each family member need' (needs), 'hiring of the house keeping staff' (unnecessary article/preposition), 'a person who have' (has), 'studies about how to take of baby' (preposition error and missing article), and 'is also comes with' (redundant 'is'). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they occur regularly throughout the essay, preventing the score from reaching a Band 7. The control over grammar is consistent with Band 6 criteria.
