Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: whether paying others provides good work and whether people should do these chores themselves. The writer takes a clear stance supporting the economic benefits for workers and the practical necessity for busy individuals. However, the development of ideas lacks depth and relies heavily on repetitive arguments rather than fully extended reasoning. For example, the argument regarding working mothers is introduced in the introduction, expanded slightly in the body paragraphs, and repeated in the conclusion without adding new dimensions. The examples provided, such as women facing personal issues in Pakistan, are relevant but somewhat generalised. To achieve a higher band, the ideas would need more thorough exploration and more sophisticated supporting evidence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into four distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs representing different sides of the issue, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently hindered by awkward transitions and run-on sentences. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' are used to structure the text, but internal referencing is often unclear. For instance, phrases like 'by these professions' and 'this private work' create ambiguity in linking back to previously mentioned ideas. Paragraphing is present, but the overall flow feels mechanical and disjointed, impacting the readability of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate basic ideas about employment and domestic chores. However, the range is quite limited and repetitive, with frequent reliance on basic terms like 'people', 'work', and 'good'. There are noticeable attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'househelpers', 'uneducated', and 'professions', but these are accompanied by lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'basi needs' and 'work independently'. Spelling errors, such as 'nowadys', 'wthout', and 'womens', also detract from the lexical quality, placing this response firmly in the band 5 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('some individuals which are not educated it would help'), incorrect prepositions, and run-on sentences joined inappropriately with conjunctions like 'so'. For example, sentences such as 'For example, if a women who is working as a CEO of a company so she should be available in her office before employees and handling both thing are diffcult for one person' demonstrate significant structural instability and frequent slips that cause difficulty for the reader.
