Should people do these things themselves?

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this busy day and age, some individuals find it difficult to do their household chores while they are juggling with their personal and corporate life. In some ways it is a helpful way to give jobs but also, people should do few things on their own as well.

On one hand, it is a good option. As, in many countries where the population is high, there are more chances that few humans would have less education due to lack of financial situation. This leads to person who cannot work in corporate or places where it requires knowledge. This all results in rise of poverty. Most of the individuals are used to do all the household things. This is beneficial for people with less education to work as a househelp for others who are unable to do it. It is a better way to provide for their family. For example, there are so many nations, where if in a family if two people are working, they won't have to worry about things like cooking or cleaning when they can hire people to do that work which makes all of their lives easier.

On the other hand, people can be dependent on househelp but if that is affecting family time, it would be considered wrong. If the chores includes looking after children every day then it creates distance between parents and kids. For instance, if both parents are working all day, and after coming home instead of spending time with their pupils, they are depending on other people to look after, is bad parenting. As it is very important to spend some family time together.

To sum up everything, giving money to some person to look after people's mess is good in some scenarios as long as it doesn't affect family not spending time with each other.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: whether paying others for chores provides good work, and whether people should do these things themselves. The position is clear throughout the essay. The first body paragraph explores the economic benefit of providing jobs for individuals with less education, while the second body paragraph discusses the potential negative impact on family time and parenting. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or rely on broad generalisations, such as the claim that hiring help for childcare automatically constitutes 'bad parenting' if parents spend time working instead. Overall, the content is relevant and fulfills the requirements of the task, earning a solid band score.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is logically organised into an introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a brief conclusion. Progression is generally clear, and paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'On one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'For example,' though some transitions are a bit mechanical or faulty, such as starting a sentence with 'As, in many countries...' which creates a fragment. Referencing is mostly clear, though occasional awkward phrasing slightly disrupts the flow. The overall arrangement is coherent, matching the expectations for a band 6.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and phrasings such as 'juggling with their personal and corporate life' and 'rise of poverty.' However, there are noticeable word-choice errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, such as 'househelp' (instead of domestic help or housemaids), 'people's mess' (informal and imprecise), and using 'pupils' to refer to children. Spelling is generally accurate, but the lexical inaccuracies occasionally detract from precision and style, placing the response firmly at band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and relative clauses. There are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips, such as sentence fragments ('As, in many countries where the population is high, there are more chances that few humans would have less education...'), subject-verb agreement issues ('if the chores includes'), and awkward prepositions. Despite these errors, the meaning is generally clear and communication is rarely impeded. The control of grammar is characteristic of a band 6 performance.
