Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing whether outsourcing chores provides work for others and whether people should do these tasks themselves. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat superficial. For instance, the discussion on providing work mentions community development and part-time work, but these points are under-developed and lack specific context. The position is generally clear throughout the essay, concluding that it depends on individual circumstances. While the prompt is adequately covered to meet the requirements of a Band 6, expanding further on the socio-economic implications of outsourcing or the personal benefits of self-reliance would elevate the depth of the argument. Overall, the content is relevant and fulfills the basic task requirements successfully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, body paragraphs for opposing views, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', and 'On the other hand' are employed to structure the text, though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, but occasional minor disruptions in logical progression occur, such as the sudden shift to childcare without a smooth transition in the second body paragraph. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate distinct arguments, ensuring that the reader can follow the overall flow of the discussion without significant confusion, placing it comfortably in the Band 6 territory.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'hectic daily schedule', 'community development', and 'strengthen the bond'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'disscuss' instead of 'discuss', 'lasure' instead of 'leisure', 'studing' instead of 'studying', 'verious' instead of 'various', and 'themself' instead of 'themselves'. Furthermore, collocations are occasionally awkward, such as 'creating jobs will create several advantages'. Despite these errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main ideas without severely impeding communication, aligning with the Band 5.5 to 6 range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, attempting conditional and relative clauses with varying success. While some sentences are accurate, there are frequent errors in grammar, articles, and prepositions, such as 'hiring worker' instead of 'hiring workers', 'busy in their daily life' instead of 'busy with their daily lives', and 'both the perspective' instead of 'both perspectives'. Punctuation errors, such as unnecessary commas and capitalization issues (e.g., 'It is totally dependent'), are also present. These errors do not generally impede communication, but they persist frequently enough to prevent the response from achieving a higher band score, making a Band 5.5 appropriate.
