Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: whether paying others is a good way to provide work, and whether people should do these chores themselves. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the writer mentions that doing chores builds relationships with children and keeps adults fit, which directly answers the second question. Regarding the first question, the student briefly notes that hiring help provides income for single parents or low-income individuals. While all parts are addressed, the arguments lack depth and rely on simplistic examples. The position is clear throughout, but the overall development fits the Band 5 descriptor where ideas are limited and somewhat under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, which attempts to structure the ideas logically. However, the progression of thoughts is frequently hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. Phrases like 'Firstly,' and 'Secondly,' are used to structure the points, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs is often faulty. For example, referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'As a result the house owner given an opportunity to others,' where the logical relationship between clauses is muddled. Paragraphing is present, but grouping of ideas lacks smooth flow, placing this performance solidly at Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms such as 'things', 'do', and 'people'. There are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices throughout the text, such as 'insufficient of time' instead of 'insufficient time', 'house holds' instead of 'households', and 'inof time' instead of 'enough time'. While the writer attempts some less common phrasing like 'life span' and 'physical activity', the overall lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. These recurring errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, aligning with the Band 5 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The response shows a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences predominate, and attempts at more complex structures frequently result in serious structural errors and non-standard syntax, such as 'There are few people will pay somebody' and 'the child who grow up with their parents how to behaviour and good manners.' Frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, tense usage, and prepositional phrases are present throughout the text. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and impede comprehension in places, which is characteristic of a Band 4 performance.
