Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, life has become very busy due to work. Due to busy life people has started hire house help to do their daily household task or to lookafter their children. This could be a great option to provide employment to people who does not have high education and experience; however, individual can do their routine task themselves to save money.

To begin with, hiring someone as househelp can provide employment to someone. In other words, there are so many people in the society who does not have good education qualifications and experience. Therefore, these small jobs can help those unemployed people to earn good money. Furthermore, This trend can provide part time or full jobs to people who are housewife or retired with lots of free time. For example, senior citizens can earn money just working one hour in evening as dog caretaker.

On the other hand, if people do their household chores themselves they can save a large amount of money. Nowadays it is very expensive to hire someone as nany for children. They demand good salary along with accomodation and other benefits such as transport expenses. Moreover, it is not easy for parents to trust strangers to give responsibility of their children. For instance, instead of payng a high amount of money to others they can invest that money for the future of their kids. Hence, I prefer people should do things themselve to reduce their expenses.

In conclusion, paying someone to do household tasks can help people wo need work. However, this can increase people's budget and if they save money they can use this for betterment of their and their kids' future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses both parts of the prompt: whether hiring help is a good way to provide employment, and whether people should do these tasks themselves. The writer takes a balanced approach, acknowledging the employment benefits for individuals with lower educational qualifications while ultimately arguing that doing chores independently saves money. Ideas are generally well-supported with relevant examples, such as senior citizens working as dog caretakers and the high costs associated with nannies. However, some arguments could be extended further for greater depth, such as exploring the broader economic implications. Overall, the task is covered well, earning a solid Band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is divided into logical paragraphs with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing opposing views, and a brief conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, as seen in sentences like 'Furthermore, This trend can provide part time or full jobs to people who are housewife or retired with lots of free time.' Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, ensuring an overall coherent arrangement that reads reasonably well, corresponding to a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully using terms like 'employment', 'unemployed people', 'senior citizens', and 'expenses'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, though this is accompanied by word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'house help' instead of 'domestic help', 'nany' instead of 'nanny', and 'payng' instead of 'paying'. Spelling errors like 'lookafter' (written as one word) and grammatical word-form errors like 'people who does not have' occur, but they do not impede communication. This performance aligns with the descriptors for a Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement ('people has started', 'who does not have', 'individual can do') and missing articles ('as househelp', 'with lots of free time'). Punctuation and capitalization are occasionally faulty. While the complex sentences show ambition, the frequency of basic grammatical errors means the majority of sentences are not error-free, placing this writing firmly in the Band 5.5 category.
