Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing whether employing domestic staff is a good way to provide jobs and whether people should do these things themselves. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are supported with relevant examples, such as professional cleaners in Lagos state and demanding professions like doctors and nurses. However, there is a penalty for length, as the response falls short of the 250-word minimum by 5 words, containing 245 words in total. This prevents the score from reaching a higher band. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, but the word count restriction must be noted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing each part of the prompt, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'In addition', 'Furthermore', and 'However'. Paragraphing is utilized, though the introduction is split awkwardly into a conversational opening question and a separate paragraph. Referencing is generally clear, and the overall progression of ideas flows sensibly from job creation to personal bonding and exceptions for demanding jobs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'unskilled people', 'substancial salary', 'professional services', and 'eradicating unemployment'. However, there are several spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'empoly' instead of employ, 'staffs' instead of staff, 'ariund' instead of around, 'waty' instead of way, 'neccesarily' instead of necessarily, 'thigs' instead of things, 'Househelps' instead of house helps, 'substancial' instead of substantial, 'problem' instead of problems, 'beter' instead of better, 'teache' instead of teach, 'strock' instead of stroke, and 'asist' instead of assist. These errors indicate a need for closer proofreading.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional ideas and compound sentences. There are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors, such as sentence fragments ('Work like Househelps, Nannies and Cleaners.'), capitalization errors ('lagos state'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('employed staff provides...'). While the meaning can generally be understood, the density of grammatical and mechanical errors impacts the overall accuracy of the writing.
