Student answer (Band 6.5)
Modern day society has grown so busy that it is sometimes impossible to do everything on your own. I think it is a great way of providing a source of income for someone in need.
People in the past used to do all their chores themeselves. It used to be a man's job to bring income home while other responsibilities such as cooking, cleaning and taking care of children used to be a woman's job. My grandmother still believes that people should do their own work themselves. She is 89 years old and you would be surprised that till day she does all the cooking and cleaning at her home.
On the contrary, the dynamics have shifted because of a progressively worsening economy. It is almost impossible to run a household on one income only. Both partners need to work full-time in order to sustain a comfortable lifestyle. This has lead to more and more people choosing to pay someone else to perform their duties that they cannot do, simply because they don't have enough time.
Interestingly, this has created huge career options for so many people. Some people who were not qualified enough for an office job or didn't have the skills for jobs where strong communication skills were required such as, sales person, receptionist and waitressing etc, can now easily find a job at something that they are good at. You can get hired for something as simple as organizing someone's wardrobe.
This has also been beneficial for students who have to pay huge student loans or have to pay their tuition fee for college. My niece works as a part-time nanny for two children and she is able to earn enough to pay her college tuition.
Although, doing everything on your own sounds logical to some people, but there is nothing wrong in taking a break for yourself and hiring someone else to do a task. Especially when it gives a mutual benefit.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt directly: whether outsourcing chores provides good work for others and whether people should do them themselves. The writer takes a clear position, arguing that it creates beneficial employment opportunities and that hiring help is acceptable given modern lifestyle pressures. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the mention of the grandmother representing the traditional view versus the niece working as a part-time nanny. While some points are slightly conversational in tone, the main requirements of the task are fully covered, leading to a solid performance matching Band 7 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, transitioning smoothly from the historical context to the modern economic realities and the benefits of job creation. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'On the contrary' and 'Interestingly', though paragraphing could occasionally be tighter. Referencing is mostly clear, and the overall arrangement guides the reader through the argument effectively without noticeable disruption, aligning well with the Band 7 criteria.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary with some flexibility and precision, using phrases like 'progressively worsening economy', 'sustain a comfortable lifestyle', and 'mutual benefit'. There are some attempts at less common lexical items, although minor errors or slight awkwardness in word choice occur, such as writing 'themeselves' instead of 'themselves' and the collocation slip 'career options' instead of 'career opportunities'. However, the vocabulary is adequate to convey meaning clearly and accurately most of the time, fitting the Band 6.5 to 7.0 profile, comfortably supported at Band 6.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over relative clauses and conditional structures. There are several error-free sentences, alongside a few grammatical slips, such as 'This has lead to' instead of 'led to', and a punctuation/conjunction issue with the sentence starting with 'Although, doing everything...'. Despite these occasional errors, communication is never impeded, and the overall grammatical control warrants a stable Band 6.5 score.
