IELTS Writing Task 2 question

It is sometimes possible to pay somebody to do things you don't want to do, or don't have time to do, for example, household chores or looking after children.

Is this a good way of providing work for others?

Should people do these things themselves?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Sometimes people hire someone to do the tasks they are either not interested in doing or there is a shortage of time, for instance, babysitting or other house chores. This creates work opportunities for the unemployed, which is a good thing because both parties could benefit from it, rather than one finding it hard to manage their schedule and other finding it difficult to find work.

Possibility to hire someone to perform household tasks or look after your children creates a job market, especially for the desperate. By this I mean if someone is struggling to find work and they are willing to do any kind of job, an opportunity arises for them to get on their feet by getting recruited by a person who is having a hard time performing their daily routine chores. The reason for this might be that the person hiring is either distasteful towards performing those tasks, or simply time-management. For example, an online teacher who is also a mother finds it very difficult to prepare food for her family because of her back-to-back online lectures throughout the day. So she hires someone for cooking and taking care of her children so she can deliver her lectures with a relaxed mind.

Furthermore, if someone is not interested in doing something, it can effect them psychologically. So, instead of performing it themself they pay someone else to do it. The one getting paid is also happy because their financial situation is better so they are in an improved psychological state. For example, my friend's mother has an OCD and she does not enjoy cleaning, rather hates it. In the start of her marriage her husband forced her to clean, not taking her mental condition seriously. This resulted her in a worse state of mind and eventually seeking therapy. After that he hired a maid for her which improved her mental well-being.

In conclusion, if someone hates performing certains tasks or has a lack of time, it is rather a better option to pay someone to do it. This will not only improve their state of mind but also their daily-life.
