Student answer (Band 5.0)

Sometimes people tends to hire someone to do things they can’t do by paying them, for example cleaning the house and other household work or baby sitting. In this essay, I will discuss why I see it as a good way by providing work for others.

There are a lot of reasons why some workers choose to pay someone to do other things for them, one is the household chores. For example, some wealthy family hiring someone to do their household chores for the reason that they have enough money to pay for someone. Moreover, other workers don’t have time and energy after work to do this that why they choose to pay someone rather than exhausting themselves. For example, healthcare professionals having night shift duty and no one will look after for their kids, they will look and hire for someone to take care for their kids because they can’t be with them the whole time due to calling of work.

In my own perspective, I see it as a good way because it gives an opportunity to someone in need with money by giving them some work. Not everyone is a degree holder or did not finish school and don’t have any opportunity to find a professional work. Offering some kind of work like nanny or baby sitter can give them opportunity for work for their living. They will work for someone who’s in need for help and they will receive some benefits for it through having a work and being compensated.

To conclude, I agree that there is a good way giving some work to others that they can’t do like household work or babysitting because it provides opportunity to someone who is jobless or to someone without any degree from school. In this way, they can help someone to provide and support for their own family.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing why paying others for chores is a good way to provide work, but it only partially covers all parts of the task. While the first question regarding providing work is explored, the second question ('Should people do these things themselves?') is largely neglected, as the essay focuses almost exclusively on the benefits to workers rather than debating whether individuals ought to perform these tasks themselves. The position is stated initially, but the development of ideas remains limited and somewhat repetitive, as seen when the author repeatedly returns to the idea of providing jobs for people without degrees without extending this argument with deeper insights or alternative perspectives.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organisation to the essay, with a clear introduction and conclusion, and paragraphs are used to separate main points. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical flow between sentences can feel disjointed. Cohesive devices are sometimes used inaccurately or repetitively, such as the frequent reliance on 'For example' and transitional phrases like 'In my own perspective' and 'To conclude'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun shifts between 'workers', 'family', and 'someone', which creates some confusion regarding who is paying whom throughout the body paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices that recur, such as 'workers choose to pay someone' (when referring to affluent employers) and 'calling of work', which can cause some difficulty for the reader. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are often marred by imprecise collocations and phrasing, such as 'degree holder or did not finish school' and 'receive some benefits for it through having a work'. Spelling and word-form errors are present but generally do not completely impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are persistent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'Sometimes people tends to hire', incorrect verb forms such as 'some wealthy family hiring', and awkward prepositional phrases like 'look after for their kids'. Punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent. These frequent errors in grammar put a strain on the reader and reflect limited control over more complex structural patterns.
