Student answer (Band 5.0)
In this modern era, people often try to balance life and work needs with someone's help. Perhaps, to overcome this dilema people pay for the duties to someone locally or specific organization which they cannot or sometimes do not want to fulfill by their own. Duties such as houshold chores and baby sitting are very common duties that are in-demand for an individual.
It is not very common these days to find work, when it comes to older people or students. To mitigate this problem, offering duties to such people can have a positive outcome that can lead to community growth. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response responds to the task only minimally, and it also fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, stopping abruptly at 207 words. While the writer touches upon both parts of the prompt regarding providing work and whether people should do these tasks themselves, the ideas remain very limited and underdeveloped. For instance, the discussion on students and older people finding work lacks sufficient extension or concrete reasoning. To improve, the writer needs to fully develop all parts of the prompt with well-supported arguments and ensure the essay reaches the required word count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
Information and ideas are presented, but the overall arrangement lacks clear progression, and the text ends mid-thought with an unfinished paragraph containing only a transitional word and no completion. Paragraphing is attempted, but the logical flow between sentences and paragraphs is frequently disrupted. Cohesive devices are basic and sometimes inaccurate, such as the abrupt shift in the second paragraph. To move higher, the essay needs a clearer overall logical structure, fully developed paragraphs, and smoother, more accurate transitions that guide the reader logically from one point to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, featuring basic and repetitive terms such as 'dilema', 'houshold', and 'stressbuster'. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, including 'fulfil by their own' instead of 'on their own', and 'baby sitting' used inconsistently. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary, the errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer should use a wider and more precise range of vocabulary with accurate spelling, natural collocations, and appropriate word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response shows a very limited range of structures, with frequent errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. There are noticeable issues with article usage, prepositions, and verb patterns, such as 'they are ought to learn' and 'their time management for not ony household chores'. Attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, and punctuation errors are present. To reach the next band, the writer must demonstrate a better mix of simple and complex sentence forms while reducing the frequency of basic grammatical errors in subject-verb agreement, prepositions, and word patterns.
