Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the prompt minimally, touching upon the ideas of hiring help for chores and childcare, but the discussion remains heavily underdeveloped. Furthermore, the response falls significantly short of the minimum word requirement of 250 words, containing only 163 words. While the writer attempts to answer both parts of the prompt regarding providing work and whether people should do these things themselves, the limited length prevents any deep exploration or full development of these ideas. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure the task is fully completed with extended, well-supported arguments that meet the required word count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation present with basic cohesive devices and transition markers such as 'firstly', 'secondly', 'however', and 'conculasion'. However, these devices are sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, and there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Paragraphing is attempted, but the structure is disjointed and sentences are often strung together without smooth logical transitions. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'they can use your free time'. To improve, the writer needs to enhance logical progression between sentences and use a wider, more natural variety of cohesive devices.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for expressing basic thoughts, featuring frequent spelling and word-choice errors. Examples of lexical issues include 'sombody' instead of 'somebody', 'hosehold' instead of 'household', 'gocery' instead of 'groceries', and 'conculasion' instead of 'conclusion'. While the writer makes attempts at topic-related vocabulary like 'household chores' and 'stressful', the noticeable errors in spelling and word form can cause some difficulty for the reader. To move up to the next band, the writer needs to expand their lexical range and eliminate basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences, with attempts at complex structures often resulting in errors. There are frequent grammatical errors involving verb forms, articles, and capitalization, such as 'they have do not enough time', 'a person do not like looking children to hole day', and 'not everone has enough money'. Punctuation is also neglected, with missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences and missing spaces after periods. These frequent errors cause strain for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to increase sentence variety and gain better control over basic grammatical rules and punctuation.
