Student answer (Band 6.0)

In modern life, many people are very busy with their jobs and they have no time for housework. So they pay other people to do things like cleaning the house, washing clothes or looking after their children. I think this a good way to provide jobs for others, but people should also do some work themselves.

On the one hand, paying someone to do some houswork is a good way to provide employment. In Pakistan and India people are very poor so they need jobs. If a rich families hire a maid for cleaning houses or driver for their children, that poor person gets money to support their family. It is also good for the economy. For instance, if mother and father are working in offices, they cannot take care of their baby. If they hire a babysitter, they can do their job without worry. So it is helpful for everyone.

On the other hand, I believe people should not depend others for everything. If they pay anything for other they become lazy. For example, if a children cannot clean their own room, they will not learn to be responsible. However, some work like looking after their child should be done by themselves. A maid cannot give love to a child like a mother. If parents give all their duties to other a family relationship becomes weak.

Overall, I think paying others for household chores is a good way to creat jobs and help busy families, but people should find a balanced. They should hire for a difficult tasks, but they should also do some physical work and spend time with their children themselves.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the two-part prompt by discussing both the employment benefits of outsourcing chores and whether people should handle these tasks themselves, maintaining a clear position throughout. Relevant ideas are presented, such as helping families in developing regions and the importance of parental bonding. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed; for instance, the assertion that hiring help is 'good for the economy' is mentioned without further elaboration or support. Similarly, the argument regarding personal responsibility could be extended with more detailed examples. The response fully satisfies the requirements for addressing the task while showing glimpses of better extension seen in higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the essay into an introduction, distinct body paragraphs for each side of the prompt, and a conclusion. Logical sequencing is generally maintained through standard cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'For instance'. However, cohesion sometimes feels mechanical or repetitive, and referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in the phrase 'If they pay anything for other they become lazy', where pronoun referencing lacks precision. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas, yet the transitional links between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother to achieve a fully seamless flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range to communicate ideas effectively on this topic. There are successful attempts to use less common items and topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'employment', 'babysitter', 'household chores', and 'responsible'. Nevertheless, noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and collocation occur throughout the text, including phrases like 'a rich families' instead of 'rich families', 'depend others' instead of 'depend on others', and 'create jobs' spelled as 'creat'. Furthermore, some expressions are overly simplistic, such as 'do some work'. These lexical inaccuracies and limited variations show the characteristics typical of this level, where meaning is still successfully conveyed despite the flaws.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional structures and relative clauses such as 'If they hire a babysitter, they can do their job without worry.' There is a noticeable presence of grammatical errors, particularly regarding article usage ('a rich families', 'a children'), subject-verb agreement ('a family relationship becomes weak' vs plural nouns), and prepositions ('pay anything for other'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while these errors persist, they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the argument without severe difficulty. The structural control successfully reflects a blend of accurate simple sentences alongside occasional faulty complex structures.
