Is this a good way of providing work for others?

Should people do these things themselves?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays with the fast changing world, everybody works whether it is a man or a woman. In the past, it was particularly believed that woman are the ones to do household chores or look after children. However, with the evolution of mankind where women are working, they do not have time accomplish both commitments.

Consequently, they employ other people to carry out this function of theirs. It is a postive aspect as it provides work for others in return of a salary. There are some needy people who are willing to do small jobs as they cannot work in an office to sustain their family. For instance, I myself employed a lady to perform some household chores when my children were small. This small help from others is tremendously beneficial.

On the other hand, it all depends on the nature of jobs to be performed. If the work requires to be done by someone meticurious or trustworthy, getting someone in this category might be difficult. Then, doing it yourself would be the best alternative. In my view, the type of person that could be trusted depends on his attitude, feelings and appearance. Then, only you could decide on the type of work that the person best fits in.

However, there are many things that could be performed by advanced technology today but still many other things require the human touch. For example, looking after children cannot be done by a robot powered by Artificial Intelligence as it requires that human feelings to understand the children emotion.

In my opinion, not every work could be performed by outsiders, some needs to be done by oneself if only time and energy allows us.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both whether employing help provides good work for others and whether people should handle these tasks themselves. Your position is clear throughout the essay. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others, which keeps the response at this level. For instance, your point about providing work for needy individuals is supported well by your personal example of employing a lady when your children were small. On the other hand, the discussion regarding trusting someone based on their 'attitude, feelings and appearance' is somewhat underdeveloped and lacks clear support. To move towards higher bands, every main idea requires thorough extension and consistent elaboration rather than brief mention.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introducing the topic to weighing the advantages of outsourcing chores against the necessity of doing things yourself. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas, such as moving from employment benefits to the limitations of hiring outsiders. However, cohesion is sometimes slightly mechanical or faulty, as seen in transitions like 'Then, only you could decide' or 'However, there are many things... but still many other things', which detract from a completely smooth flow. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun reference in 'if only time and energy allows us'. To achieve a higher score, you should ensure that cohesive devices connect ideas more naturally and that referencing is consistently precise throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary demonstrates an adequate range for the task, successfully communicating your ideas about household chores and working parents. You attempt less common vocabulary items such as 'evolution of mankind', 'meticulous', and 'Artificial Intelligence'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form that prevent a higher score. For example, writing 'in return of a salary' should be 'in return for a salary', and 'meticurious' contains a spelling error. Additionally, phrases like 'not every work could be performed' show slight unnaturalness, as 'work' is uncountable here and 'tasks' or 'jobs' would be more precise. To reach the next level, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary with greater precision, fewer lexical errors, and stronger idiomatic collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional clauses ('If the work requires to be done...') and relative clauses successfully. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('woman are the ones', 'some needs to be done') and article usage ('with the fast changing world', 'requires that human feelings to understand the children emotion'). Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To improve your grammatical range and accuracy, you should focus on tightening agreement rules, refining prepositions within grammatical patterns, and ensuring complex sentence structures remain entirely error-free.
