Student answer (Band 6.5)

In recent times, there has been an increasing trend to hire people for various domestic and professional tasks. I believe that it is a good way to provide employment opportunities to those who are struggling financially. Moreover, those who can afford to hire someone for accomplishing their daily tasks should definitely seek help. However, certain domestic duties, such as childcare requires careful supervision, and must not be left entirely on helpers.

I think that paying someone to get the routine tasks done is a useful way for providing job opportunities to people who belong to middle or low-income groups. To illustrate, umployment has significantly increased after COVID-19 in Pakistan, and the rising inflation has made it harder for the people to make the ends meet, especially the low-income groups. So, hiring someone to get our household chores done can certainly provide a source of income for these people.

In my opinion, if affordability is not an issue people should definitely hire someone to help them with their necessary errands. This will provide working professionals who have busy schedules enough time to realx and unwind. To illustrate, I have a very hectic routine and I am unable to cook meals for myself. For this purpose I have employed a cook who comes on Sunday to prepare meals for the entire week. This has given my enough time to accomplish my other tasks. However, I personally feel that there are certain responsibilities which cannot be left entirely on helpers, such as childcare. This requires careful supervision, as a nanny cannot be blindly trusted for a childcare until she has a credible reference.

In conclusion, I maintain that paying someone for the accomplishment of our everyday chores is a good way to provide employment opportunities for financialy struggling individuals. Those who can afford should definitely hire someone for their routine tasks, as this will give them time to relax and spend time with family. However, careful supervision is warrranted when entrusting certain domestic responsibilities such as childcare to a helper.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your response addresses both questions and maintains a clear position: hiring help can create employment and benefit busy people, while childcare needs close oversight. The Pakistan example supports the employment argument, and your account of employing a cook gives a relevant personal illustration. These examples help extend your main points rather than merely listing opinions. The qualification about childcare also shows a considered response to the issue. To strengthen the development further, explain more explicitly why people should not necessarily do every task themselves, and add detail about how paid domestic work benefits workers beyond providing income. Some claims, such as that people who can afford help “should definitely” hire someone, are stated broadly rather than fully justified.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: the introduction states your position, the body paragraphs develop employment and personal convenience, and the conclusion restates your view. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “To illustrate,” “Moreover,” and “However” help signal examples and contrast. This is a coherent arrangement, with each paragraph focused on a main point. However, some connections feel mechanical because similar transitions are repeated, particularly “To illustrate” at the start of both body examples. The final paragraph largely repeats the introduction and body claims rather than drawing them together. More varied referencing and a conclusion that synthesises the benefits and the childcare qualification would make cohesion more flexible and less repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “employment opportunities,” “routine tasks,” “affordability,” “hectic routine,” and “careful supervision.” These choices communicate your ideas clearly, and phrases such as “relax and unwind” show some range. However, attempts at more formal or less common wording are not always natural: “for the accomplishment of our everyday chores” is awkward, and “a credible reference” would be more idiomatically expressed as “reliable references.” There are also spelling errors, including “umployment,” “realx,” “financialy,” and “warrranted.” These do not prevent understanding, but careful proofreading and more precise collocations would improve control and make the vocabulary sound more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including subordinate clauses and contrast: “However, certain domestic duties … requires careful supervision” and “if affordability is not an issue people should definitely hire someone.” Many sentences are accurate and the meaning remains clear throughout. A few grammatical errors persist. In “certain domestic duties … requires,” the plural subject needs a plural verb (“require”); “This has given my enough time” should use “me”; and “a nanny cannot be blindly trusted for a childcare” has an incorrect article and construction. The sentence beginning “This requires careful supervision” also has an unclear reference, since “This” could refer to childcare or the preceding claim. Check agreement, pronouns, and article use, while retaining your effective range of complex sentences.
