IELTS Writing Task 2 question
It is sometimes possible to pay somebody to do things you don't want to do, or don't have time to do, for example, household chores or looking after children.
Is this a good way of providing work for others?
Should people do these things themselves?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, many people pay others to do household chores or look after their children because they do not have enough time. In my opinion, this is a good way to provide employment opportunities for others. However, o believe that people should also take responsibility for their own household duties.
on the one hand, hiring someone to do household work has several advantages. Firstly, many people have busy schedules because of their jobs and family responsibilities. Therefore, they may not have enough time to clean their house or cook meals. BY hiring a domestic helper, they can save time and focus on their work. Secondly, this practise creates job opportunities for people who need to earn money. For example, a family may hire a babysitter to take care of their children while both parents are on work. This benefits both the family and the babysitter.
On the other hand, I believe that people should do some household tasks themselves. This is because household responsibilities teach people to become independent and responsible. In addition, parents should spend time with their children because children need love, care and guidance from their parents. For instance, although parents can hire a babysitter, they should make time to play with their children and help them with their studies. Similarly, all family members should share basic household chores instead of depending completely on domestic helpers.
In conclusion, paying others to perform household tasks is a good way to create employment and save time. Nevertheless, I believe that people should not depend entirely on others and should perform their own responsibility whenever possible.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your response addresses both questions and maintains a clear, balanced position: paid help can create employment and save time, but people should retain responsibility for some duties. The examples of a babysitter supporting working parents and parents helping children with their studies are relevant. This meets the task well, while the explanation is not equally developed throughout: the employment benefit is illustrated, but the discussion of how household work provides meaningful or suitable work for others could be explored further. Likewise, “people should do some household tasks themselves” is a clear view, but the reasons could be extended with a more specific example of shared responsibilities. More detailed development would make the argument more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall progression: the introduction states your position, the two body paragraphs present contrasting considerations, and the conclusion restates your view. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. Within paragraphs, ideas generally develop in a logical order, with examples following the claims they support. Some linking is a little formulaic, particularly the repeated use of “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “For example.” You could make cohesion more flexible by connecting ideas through reference or cause-and-effect phrasing, and by varying transitions rather than relying mainly on explicit signposts.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “employment opportunities,” “domestic helper,” “independent and responsible,” and “guidance.” These choices communicate your ideas clearly, and the vocabulary is generally appropriate to the discussion. However, much of the wording is familiar and repeated, especially “household chores,” “household tasks,” and “people,” so the range does not yet show much flexibility or precision. There are also a few word-choice or spelling issues: “on work” is an inaccurate collocation, and “practise” is not the correct noun spelling in this context. Aim to use more precise alternatives and check collocations and spelling carefully; this would strengthen the vocabulary without changing your clear meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “because they do not have enough time” and “although parents can hire a babysitter.” Most sentences are easy to understand, and the conditional and contrast structures help express relationships between ideas. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. The opening of the second paragraph begins with lowercase “on,” and “o believe” should be “I believe”; “BY” also has inconsistent capitalisation. In “while both parents are on work,” the preposition pattern is incorrect. The final phrase “perform their own responsibility” also needs a more suitable grammatical construction. Proofreading these slips and varying sentence patterns further would improve accuracy and control.
