IELTS Writing Task 2 question

It is sometimes possible to pay somebody to do things you don't want to do, or don't have time to do, for example, household chores or looking after children.

Is this a good way of providing work for others?

Should people do these things themselves?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The possibility on making people do your job that you do not wanted to do, or having no time to do it, is simply okay. I think having this kind of job offer to people you know or even a stranger that is interviewed is highly possible. This kind of work that providing to other people does not required any requirements unlike in a company or stores. It is because having people tend to your work with minimal supervision and have instructed them is way better than doing it yourselves.

One main reason that somebody wanted to hire people to tend their work is because they have other matters to attend to. For example the person has many things to work at in the company but their home is a bit messy, so they will hire a cleaner to clean and make the home spotless so that when the owner comes home he or she will not be stressed out or be more tired because they need to clean the house that they reside in. Having someone providing work also a good thing so they can meet their ends and not suffer from hunger. I tend to give work to my friends if they wanted to like commissions on homework or project that make my studies even better and if they are good at it I will hire them over and over so that they have an income.

People should not do these task themselves if they have the money, they can pay the person dealing with the task or work they wanted to be done because in a latter part in which at first they wanted that task completed at this specific timeline. So as a organized person I would likely wanted other people do my job so I can do other things rather than being in that constant loop where now if I hire somebody to do this job or that job, and make it more proactive in my daily life.

In conclusion, It is good way paying somebody to do the job they not wanted to do, in order to focus on other things rather than being stuck at the moment. Now having a person hired to do the specified job is more likely to be relaxed and making much more progress on other things.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions and make your position clear: you consider paid help acceptable and argue that people with sufficient money need not do these tasks themselves. The examples of hiring a cleaner and giving friends paid work are relevant, and the latter recognises the benefit to workers. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The claim that this work requires no qualifications is broad and unexplained, while the example of paying friends for homework raises an ethical concern that is not considered. The second question is answered mainly from the perspective of people who can afford help; you could also explain when doing tasks oneself is preferable, such as for personal responsibility or family involvement. More balanced reasoning and fuller explanation would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the paragraphs generally relate to the topic. You also use linking expressions such as “For example,” “One main reason” and “In conclusion.” However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow: the first body paragraph moves from household cleaning to providing income and then to homework commissions without clearly connecting these points. Some transitions are mechanical, and references such as “these task” and “this job or that job” do not always make the intended idea precise. Organise each paragraph around one main point, then explain and illustrate it before moving on. This would create a clearer overall line of argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “hire a cleaner,” “minimal supervision,” “income” and “specific timeline.” There are also attempts at less common or more formal phrasing, such as “proactive in my daily life.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning harder to follow. For example, “meet their ends” is not the usual expression, and “having people tend to your work” is unclear in this context. Repetition of “job,” “work” and “task” also limits range. Build accuracy by learning common word partnerships and choosing direct expressions; for instance, describe workers as earning a living and say that someone completes household chores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including explanations with “because” and examples introduced by “so that.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to process. Examples include “The possibility on making people do your job,” “This kind of work that providing to other people does not required,” and “People should not do these task themselves.” These show problems with verb forms, sentence construction and plural agreement. There are also run-on sentences, particularly in the first body paragraph, where several ideas are joined without clear punctuation. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add one subordinate clause at a time and check verb forms and agreement.
