Should people do these things themselves?

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, there has been a dramatic rise in individuals who are hiring people to perform household chores or take care of their children. This upward trend has several advantages, as it increases employment opportunities and allows individuals to manage their time more effectively. In my opinion, hiring people for such tasks is beneficial, provided that individuals continue to fulfil their own responsibilities.

To commence with, employing workers for housework generates an income for low-class individuals. To expound, there are many people who do not possess proper educational credentials to land a good job, therefore such positions can help them significantly and improves their finances. Furthermore, these work openings are usually flexible and usually do not take their whole days, therefore helping citizens notably. To exemplify, a student can work part-time as a nanny and can earn and pay their fees. Hence, the above example vividly illustrates the positive impact of domestic work positions to citizens.

On the other hand, working individuals need helping hands due to their hectic schedules. To elaborate further, professionals have too many responsibilities and often are exhausted due to excessive workload, consequently, having individuals helping them with household work can significantly reduce their stress and also benefits their family members too. For instance, a busy employee might struggle to take proper care of his child, as a result having paid help can remarkably improve child's health and strengthen their bonds. However, such help should be hired mindfully and when it is actually needed.

To recapitulate, domestic work prospects aid significantly in creating work opportunities and help overall economy too, while employers also benefit by significant reduction in their stress and responsibilities. Although, these employees should be hired mindfully and must not be exploited.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions: the first body paragraph explains how domestic work creates jobs, while the second describes how paid help can ease the pressure on busy workers. Your view is also stated clearly in the introduction and conclusion: hiring help is beneficial, but should be done mindfully. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The employment argument focuses mainly on people with limited education and a student nanny, without exploring other benefits or limitations. The second question—whether people should do these tasks themselves—is answered indirectly through the condition that help should be hired only when needed. Explain more explicitly when self-performance is preferable, such as where care or responsibility cannot be delegated. This would make the response to all parts more complete and better supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two focused body paragraphs and a conclusion. The progression from employment benefits to the advantages for employers is easy to follow, and examples are placed in the relevant paragraphs. You also use a range of linking expressions, including “Furthermore,” “On the other hand” and “To recapitulate.” At times, however, these transitions feel formulaic, and some links are not fully logical: “On the other hand” introduces a related benefit rather than a contrasting view. The conclusion’s “Although” is also awkwardly attached to the preceding sentence. Use fewer stock transitions and make the relationship between ideas explicit; clearer referencing between claims and examples would strengthen the flow further.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You show an adequate range for the topic, including phrases such as “employment opportunities,” “hectic schedules,” “excessive workload” and “domestic work prospects.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning remains clear. You also attempt more formal vocabulary, but some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural in context: “low-class individuals” is inappropriate, “work openings” is less natural than “job opportunities,” and “improves their finances” does not fit smoothly with the plural subject “positions.” There is also repetition of “significantly” and “helping.” Aim for precise, natural collocations rather than adding formal-sounding phrases. A more varied set of terms for domestic workers, paid care and household responsibilities would improve flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional phrasing (“provided that individuals continue to fulfil…”) and clauses of reason and result. Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and errors rarely obstruct understanding. Some grammatical slips remain, particularly with agreement and sentence boundaries. For example, “such positions can help them significantly and improves their finances” shifts from a plural subject to a singular verb; “improve” is needed. The sentence beginning “therefore, such positions” joins two independent clauses with a comma, and “Although, these employees…” uses a subordinating conjunction as if it were a standalone transition. In “improve child's health,” the possessive determiner needs an article. Review agreement, articles and punctuation around linking clauses while retaining your range of complex sentences.
