Should people do these things themselves?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Although some people believe that it is possible to pay household chores or a nanny to do things because you don't wanna do or don't have time to do, I believe that along with its advantages, it has many disadvantages. People should do their things themselves.

To begin with, some people believe that it is sometimes possible to hire a domestic helper or a nanny to take care of their houses and children respectively. This is because of their hectic working schedules, where people spend almost 12 hours away from their house. Furthermore, they cannot take their children along with themselves because it can disrupt their professional lives. For example, a couple who work in a field where they cannot take their children with them due to safety hazard. As a result, parents might hire a nanny who can take care of their children for feeding, cleaning and grooming.

On the other hand, others argue that this is not a good way of providing work for others because of child's attachment with their nannies. This is because when a child spend most of their time with an unkown person, they would get more attached with them. Moreover, it has been seen that even in their parents presence, children would cry while searching for the nanny due to their attachments. Furthermore, leaving a house on someone's trust has raised a serious discussion because of the security issues. For example, house owners might be worried for their house security and privacy while leaving it on an unknown's responsibilty. As a result, people should manage to take care of their children and house on their own rather than trusting a helper or a nanny.

To conclude, although it is convenient for some people to let others do their work, I believe that this is a serious concern about their child's safety and house security. Therefore, people should manage their timings and do their responsibilties on their own.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you acknowledge that hiring help can be convenient, but conclude that people should manage these responsibilities themselves. You address both questions and give relevant examples, including parents with demanding jobs and concerns about children’s attachment and home security. However, the response focuses more on reasons against hiring help than on whether this is a good way of providing work for others. The employment benefit is not really discussed, and the concerns about attachment and security are asserted rather than fully explained or balanced against possible safeguards. Develop both sides of the question more evenly and explain how your examples support your judgement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally have a central focus, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the argument. However, the progression is sometimes mechanical, with repeated “This is because,” “Furthermore,” and “As a result.” Some links between claims are also unclear: the first body paragraph explains why parents hire nannies, but does not connect this directly to whether doing so provides worthwhile work. Use a wider range of linking methods and make the relationship between each example and the question explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “domestic helper,” “hectic working schedules,” “professional lives,” “attachment,” and “security issues.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, but several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “pay household chores or a nanny,” “on someone’s trust,” and “on an unknown’s responsibility” do not express the intended meanings clearly. There are also spelling errors such as “unkown,” “responsibilty,” and “responsibilties.” Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, use “pay someone to do household chores” and “leave the house in someone else’s care.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “where,” and “while,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, some sentences contain errors in agreement, articles, or clause construction. For example, “when a child spend” should be “when a child spends,” and “due to their attachments” has unclear agreement and reference. The opening sentence is also difficult to follow because its structure does not clearly connect the person being paid with the tasks. Practise building complex sentences around a clear main clause, and check subject–verb agreement and article use. More consistently accurate sentence patterns would make your reasoning easier to follow.
