IELTS Writing Task 2 question
It is sometimes possible to pay somebody to do things you don't want to do, or don't have time to do, for example, household chores or looking after children.
Is this a good way of providing work for others?
Should people do these things themselves?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often considered that you could get certain services by paying for them which you either do not want to do or do not have enough time to complete, such as household cleaning and other related chores as well as taking care of infants. I believe that this is a very good way for providing employment to people in need for many reasons than doing it yourself.
I would first like to begin this by mentioning people who are medically ill or physically challenged who either partially or completely unable to move their body. Having a paid services for day to day cleaning or taking care of kids could be of great assistance. For example, someone who has been diagnosed with physical impairment could not move their body. My mother, she recently went under an operation for her hand and we got 2 maids to work for this Diwali to clean our house. If such a service was not availble, my mother would have not got her house cleaned.
Additionally, this is great for those who wants to generate a passive income. People despite having one job, often explore multiple sources of income to sustain their day to day expense. In bigger cities or in smaller towns with senior citizens, many organisations often do this by charging a small fee. This not only helps the individual taking the service but also the organiser.
In conclusion, I believe it is certainly a very good idea to charge some money to do jobs like chores or taking care of kids. That way people in need can live seamlessly without having to worry about their regular life duties.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your position is clear: you consider paid help a good way to provide work and support people who need assistance. The example of hiring cleaners while your mother recovered from an operation gives a relevant, personal reason for using these services. However, the response only partly answers the two-part question. You explain why people may hire others, but do not directly discuss whether people should sometimes do these tasks themselves or give a balanced view of that choice. The point about generating “a passive income” is also not fully explained, and the reference to organisations in towns is unclear. Address both questions explicitly and develop each reason with a clearer explanation or example to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. Paragraphs are focused, and signposts such as “Additionally” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the progression. Some connections are less clear or feel mechanical, however. The opening of the second body paragraph shifts from people needing help to people seeking extra income without explaining how this relates to providing work for others. The sentence about organisations charging a fee is also difficult to connect to the preceding point. Clarify these links and use referencing more precisely—for example, specify who “the individual” and “the organiser” are—to make the argument flow more naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “physically challenged,” “physical impairment,” “passive income,” and “multiple sources of income.” These choices help you discuss both care needs and employment. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural word choices and collocations, such as “for many reasons than doing it yourself,” “live seamlessly,” and “day to day expense.” “Availble” is misspelled, and “maids” may sound less appropriate than a neutral term such as “cleaners” or “domestic workers.” These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they limit precision. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling, especially in less familiar vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a relative clause in “people who are medically ill or physically challenged” and a conditional sentence beginning “If such a service was not available.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “who either partially or completely unable” needs a verb (“are”), and “Having a paid services” has a number and article problem. In “those who wants,” the verb does not agree with the plural subject; “My mother, she recently went…” also has an awkward sentence structure. Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, and revise the conditional construction to express the past situation accurately. More consistently controlled complex sentences would strengthen the response.
