Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mark,

Hopefully, you're doing great.

I'd like to let you know I'm currently leaving in your apartment and we have signed agreement for sir months, five months have been passed smoothly. But I'm thinking to extent my stay in this apartment. Because it's quite suitable with my job and near to my office. I adjusted myself smoothly. Moreover, my employer confirm my probation period and give me the permant job in the same company. Therefore, I want to stay here for one year more from now.

I just have a little problem with my Air Conditioner because it's not working properly in the summar season. As the weather is moderate and winter is just a step away so this problem can be fix in a couple of week. If you agree we can extent our agreement and that can be suitable for me to live here with the peace of mind.

I'll be very thankful to you. Looking forward to hearing form you.

Regards,

Muhammad

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three required points: you request an extension, explain that your employer has confirmed a permanent job, and mention the air conditioner. The request is clear in “I want to stay here for one year more from now,” and the employment change gives a relevant reason for your plans. However, the problem is only briefly described, and the proposed timing for fixing it (“winter is just a step away”) leaves unclear whether you are asking the owner to arrange a repair. Develop this point by stating directly what action you would like the owner to take. A more explicit request to renew the agreement would also make the purpose of the letter fully clear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter follows a sensible overall order: you explain your current arrangement and request an extension, then describe the apartment problem, and finish with a polite closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish the main points, and connectors such as “Moreover” and “Therefore” show how your reasons relate to the request. At times, however, the links feel mechanical or the relationship between ideas is unclear. For example, “As the weather is moderate and winter is just a step away” does not clearly connect to what you want the owner to do about the air conditioner. Separate the request, reasons, and repair issue more cleanly, and use transitions that make each relationship explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main purpose and include relevant expressions such as “probation period,” “permanent job,” and “peace of mind.” There are also several inaccurate word choices, collocations, and spelling errors that make parts of the letter less natural, including “leaving in your apartment,” “extent my stay,” “summar season,” and “hearing form you.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they reduce precision and polish. Choose standard phrases for renting and extending an agreement, and check spelling carefully. For instance, “I live in your apartment” and “extend my stay” would express your meaning more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including sentences linked with “because,” “moreover,” and “therefore.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “we have signed agreement” needs an article, while “my employer confirm my probation period and give me” has incorrect verb forms and agreement. The sentence beginning “If you agree we can extent our agreement” also needs clearer punctuation and a more accurate conditional structure. Work on articles, past and present verb forms, and agreement between subjects and verbs. More consistently accurate sentence patterns would make your request easier to read.
