Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Jazz,
Hope you are doing well.
I am writing this letter to request you to extend my apartment agreement from six-months to a year.
I am staying in your apartment from last five months and it is very quite and peaceful environment there. It would be very helpful for me if you increased my agreement for a year.
You already know that I moved there for my six months electrical-course in the wintec college. But now i am also interseted in civil-course as well and the duration of this course is also six months. So I love to stay there more for my next course.
Right now, I am facing a little problem in the apartment about leaking of tap in the bathroom from last couple of days. It would be very appreciate it if you could look into this problem and provide me suitable solution.
Thank you for your time and support. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours regards,
Aman Sharma.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You address all three required points and maintain a clear, polite purpose: you request an extension, explain that you want to take a further six-month course, and report a leaking bathroom tap. The reason for the change is specific and relevant, and the request for the owner to investigate the leak is clear. To make the letter more fully developed, state the proposed rental period unambiguously: “from six months to a year” could mean a year in total, whereas your explanation suggests six additional months. You could also clarify when the leak began or how it affects you. Overall, the task is covered clearly, with a little room to make details more precise and fully supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a sensible progression: you make the request, explain your changed study plans, raise the apartment problem, and close politely. Paragraphing separates these purposes effectively, and linking expressions such as “But now” and “So” help show the relationship between your course plans and the request. The sequence is easy to follow throughout. Some connections are a little repetitive or abrupt, however: “It would be very helpful” repeats the request before the reason is explained, and “Right now” introduces the repair issue without much transition. A more concise opening and a smoother link into the final issue would make the organisation feel more controlled and cohesive.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main points, and phrases such as “extend my apartment agreement,” “duration of this course,” and “look into this problem” suit the letter’s purpose. However, several noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems limit precision: “quite and peaceful environment” should be “quiet and peaceful environment,” “electrical-course” is not a natural course name, and “provide me suitable solution” is awkward. “Interseted” is also misspelled. These do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they make the language less natural and polished. Aim to learn common combinations such as “extend the rental agreement,” “enrol in a course,” and “repair a leaking tap,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the explanation beginning “You already know that…” and the conditional request “It would be very helpful for me if…”. The meaning remains clear despite some grammatical errors. For example, “I am staying in your apartment from last five months” needs a present perfect form and a different time expression: “I have been staying in your apartment for the past five months.” In “It would be very appreciate it,” the structure should be “I would appreciate it” or “It would be appreciated.” There are also issues with articles and sentence construction in “a little problem … about leaking of tap.” More consistent control of tense, articles, and conditional phrasing would improve accuracy.
