Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Rohan,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing regarding the renting agreement of the apartment, which I wish to extend.
As you know, I rented this apartment because of college training. During this period of time, I made many nostalgic moments in this apartment. Now, I want to extend the agreements more than six-month. I wish you would extend it.
My plans have changed because I get the permanent job in my company. Before this I was on training period and my employer like my work and decided to hire me upon completion of the training. I am very excited about this opportunity so that is why I do not want to find other place to live.
I would be really appreciate it if you could extend my contract. In addition, once you made your decision than please fix the lighting problem in the apartment. Because of this I faced many difficulties in the past time.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Vishal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the task: the duration of the extension, the reason for the change in plans, and the mention of a maintenance issue. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal request to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation regarding the job offer is clear, but the mention of the lighting problem is quite abrupt and lacks detail, which makes the request feel slightly disjointed. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is expanded with more natural detail and that the transition between the request and the maintenance issue is smoother.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. The use of cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'As you know', and 'Because of this' helps guide the reader through the text. However, some of the linking is a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the vague 'Because of this' which refers back to the lighting problem. The overall progression of ideas is clear, and the paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different topics of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is sufficient for the task, allowing the student to communicate their needs clearly. There are some attempts at more varied vocabulary, such as 'nostalgic moments' and 'opportunity', though some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'made many nostalgic moments' (should be 'had many') and 'past time' (should be 'past' or 'recent months'). The range is adequate for a General Training task, but more precise collocations would improve the quality of the writing. The errors in word choice do not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and articles. For example, 'I get the permanent job' should be 'I have received a permanent job', and 'my employer like my work' should be 'my employer liked my work'. Additionally, 'once you made your decision than please fix' contains errors in tense and conjunction usage. Despite these frequent errors, the student's intent is always understandable, and the errors do not cause significant difficulty for the reader.
