Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sam, I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to inform you that I am not moving next month as well as I planned to stay here for 1 year more. I have changed my plan because my sister got professional job so she cannot leave the job or it is not possible for her to get transfer now. Atleast we need this apartment for a year. Moreover, I am also planning to enroll in a university for 6 months course.
Addition to this, I want to explain about some problems in appartment. First of all, the washing machine and refrigerator had some issue, they may need repair or replacement. Along with this, the paint in Bathroom has not shine as earlier. I believe Bathroom should be repainted. I am looking forward for you response. I hope you understand my situation and try to help me.
Yours faithfully
Jaskaranpreet Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: the duration of the extension, the reason for the change in plans, and the maintenance issues in the apartment. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a landlord. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding your sister's job and your university course is brief. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on how these changes necessitate a longer stay. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader is fully informed of your requirements and the issues needing attention.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, body, and closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Addition to this', and 'First of all' to link your ideas. However, the transition 'Addition to this' is slightly unnatural; 'In addition to this' would be more accurate. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, though the connection between the apartment problems and the request for an extension could be more fluid. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the request from the maintenance concerns.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'inform', 'enroll', and 'replacement'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'my sister got professional job' (missing an article) and 'paint in Bathroom has not shine' (incorrect verb form). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over articles and verb tenses. You have successfully used topic-specific vocabulary related to renting and maintenance, which is sufficient for this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am not moving next month as well as I planned' (awkward phrasing) and 'I am looking forward for you response' (preposition error: 'to your response'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement, such as 'the paint in Bathroom has not shine'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures and proofreading for small errors would improve your score.
