Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sakshi,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter regarding request for staying longer than six months in your civic Apartment. I planned with my family we want to stay here for a year. Because before we decided to move in vancouver. Unfortunatly, our plans get changed due to better facilities in Surrey, Bc. Moreover, i noticed your apartment is also includes some advanced safety features such as elevator and fire safety alarms. Similarly, this apartment is also bigger than the other apartments in our city owing to these all we feel more comfortable here.

On the other hand, I also noticed some problem while living in your civic apartment. First of all, sometime gas stoves are not heat up properly while heavy cooking. In tandem with this, if we turn on to many electronic elements like air fryer, microwave and gas stoves, electricity usually starts flugzuating.

I look forward to you prompt response and see you to extend apartment agreement.

Best regards

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: stating the desired extension length, explaining the change in plans, and reporting a maintenance issue. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation regarding the move to Surrey is slightly confusing, and the description of the apartment's features feels like a list rather than a cohesive argument for why you wish to stay. To improve, ensure your reasons are clearly linked to your decision to extend the lease, and provide more specific details regarding the maintenance issues to help the owner understand the urgency.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Similarly', and 'On the other hand' to transition between ideas. However, some of these transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly misused, such as 'In tandem with this', which is not the most natural choice for describing a household problem. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the first paragraph where the connection between your plans and the apartment's features could be smoother. Improving the variety and naturalness of your linking words will help your writing flow more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'agreement', 'facilities', and 'electronic elements'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'civic Apartment' (which is not standard usage here), 'get changed' (should be 'have changed'), and 'flugzuating' (spelling error). You also use 'heat up' where 'heat up properly' is acceptable, but 'function correctly' would be more precise. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring your spelling is accurate, as these small errors occasionally draw attention to the language rather than the message.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include 'your apartment is also includes' (incorrect verb form), 'sometime gas stoves are not heat up' (subject-verb agreement and passive voice issues), and 'turn on to many' (should be 'too many'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in capitalization and sentence structure. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of auxiliary verbs. Increasing your control over these basic structures will make your writing much more professional and accurate.
