Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: stating the desired extension length, explaining the change in plans, and reporting the maintenance issue. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation regarding the work project is repetitive and could be more clearly articulated to sound more natural. While the task requirements are met, the response lacks the depth of detail that would push it into a higher band. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the reader is fully informed of your intentions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure, with a clear opening, body paragraphs for each point, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First of all' and 'The reason for', which help the reader follow your train of thought. However, the transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical, and the paragraphing is slightly underdeveloped. Some sentences feel disconnected, such as the sudden shift from the work project to the drainage issue. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring smoother flow between ideas would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'extend my stay', 'cooperation', and 'grateful'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'I am hoping you did not rented' (should be 'had not rented') and 'my work project did not completed yet' (should be 'has not been completed'). These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a need for more precise control over verb forms and collocations. Expanding your vocabulary to include more varied expressions would help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I am writing letter' (missing article), 'I want to extend to my stay' (incorrect preposition), and 'From past few days, i am facing' (missing article and incorrect tense). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To reach a higher band, you should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that your verb tenses are consistent throughout the letter.
