Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points: the duration of the extension, the reason for the change, and the maintenance issues. The tone is appropriate for a formal request to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the explanation for the change is clear, the request for repairs is slightly rushed at the end. The purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning, and the reader is left in no doubt about the writer's intentions. To reach a higher band, ensure that the transition between the request for extension and the maintenance issues is smoother and more balanced.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. The use of cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'As a result', and 'Moreover' helps to guide the reader through the text. However, some of the linking is slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by grammatical errors, such as 'Whereas, there is some issue'. The paragraphing is sufficient, but the transition between the request for the lease extension and the maintenance issues could be more fluid to improve the overall coherence of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the message, including terms like 'lease agreement', 'permanent position', and 'amenities'. There are, however, several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'extand' (extend), 'flectuating' (fluctuating), 'eminites' (amenities), and 'comfortzone' (comfort zone). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning. To improve, the student should focus on the correct spelling of common words and ensure that collocations are used accurately in a formal context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'I writing regarding', 'As you already aware before five month', and 'It is become my comfortzone'. Subject-verb agreement and tense usage are inconsistent, which impacts the overall accuracy. While the student attempts to use complex structures, the control over these is limited, leading to errors that occasionally require the reader to re-read for clarity. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for tense consistency would significantly improve the score.
