Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir

I am writing this to just finialize my stay on the aparment , which firstly i took for six months but i want to own it more then the previous months.

Firstly, i just want to let you know i would increase my stay from six months to nine months. The reason is after my compelition of studies i also have internship of three months and i was not aware about this before. I would really thankful to you if you could understand my problem because it would really difficult for me to change the apartment after six months just for three months.

In addition ,everything in the apartment is well organized, excluding one factor which is cleaning.I am always busy in my stdies so i could not get time for tideness ,if you give us approval could we hire the cleaner.I konw i would effect your privacy but we would do everything perfectly which would not effect you privacy.

Thank You

Your sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: stating the desired extension, explaining the change in plans, and mentioning a maintenance issue. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation regarding the internship is brief, and the request for a cleaner could be more clearly linked to the apartment's condition. While the purpose of the letter is clear, the overall development of the points lacks the depth required for a higher band score. Ensure that each point is fully expanded to provide a more comprehensive response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your message. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'In addition' to transition between ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical errors, such as the transition between the request for an extension and the mention of the cleaning issue. The use of referencing is sometimes unclear, which makes the progression of ideas feel slightly disjointed. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence connects smoothly to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your needs clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'agreement', 'apartment', and 'internship'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'finialize', 'compelition', 'stdies', and 'tideness'. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they do indicate a limited range of vocabulary and a lack of precision. To reach a higher band, focus on learning the correct spelling of common words and using more precise collocations to express your thoughts.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. While you are able to convey your meaning, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'i want to own it more then the previous months' (should be 'extend my stay'), 'I would really thankful' (missing 'be'), and 'if you give us approval could we hire the cleaner' (incorrect word order for a request). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas. These errors are noticeable and occur frequently, though they do not completely impede communication. Focusing on basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement will help improve your accuracy.
