Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: stating the duration of the extension, explaining the change in plans, and mentioning a maintenance issue. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding the work being 'pending' is a bit vague, and the description of the apartment issue could be more specific to help the landlord understand the urgency. To improve, try to provide slightly more detail to fully flesh out your reasons and the nature of the repair needed, which would help you reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is generally easy to follow, and the purpose is clear from the beginning. You have used some basic cohesive devices like 'also' and 'first and more important'. However, the paragraphing is insufficient; the entire body of the letter is presented as one block of text. Using clear paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, the explanation of the extension, the maintenance issue, and the closing would significantly improve the logical flow. Additionally, the transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and more varied linking words would help connect your sentences more smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your needs clearly. You use common phrases like 'extend my lease' and 'renting this apartment' correctly. However, there is a reliance on simple, repetitive language, and some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'my work still pending' instead of 'my work is still ongoing' or 'unfinished'. There are also minor errors in word formation, such as 'if you are agree' instead of 'if you agree'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to housing and professional situations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, such as 'five months has complete' instead of 'five months have been completed' and 'shower that is not work properly' instead of 'shower that is not working properly'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capital letters at the start of sentences and improper use of commas. While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency of your writing.
