Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter as a request to extant the lease of the apartment which I am currently renting.
As we initially finalised the agreement for 6 months. However, I wish to extand this agreement for one year on top of six months and make it to one and a half year and possibly further.
Initially I got a six month contract but my employer has offered my full time ongoing job. As the apartment is within walking distance from the workplace, market and also other facilities such as hospital, train station and park, I am very much interested and looking forward for an extention on the agreement.
Although the aprtment is well maintained, I would like to bring an issue about the basement parking. Because there is no security personal or gate people from neighbourhood and also visitors are parking for the longer time and not respecting the rules. I am seeking a stricter or appropriate action such as fine or tow the unauuthhorised car.
Thank you and expecting at earliest from you.
Kind regards,
Sahil

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly stated your desire to extend the lease, explained the change in your plans due to a new job offer, and identified the specific problem regarding basement parking. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention the parking issue, the description of the impact could be more detailed to fully support your request for action. Overall, the response is relevant and fulfills the requirements of the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Although' and 'As', to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor errors in sentence structure, such as the fragment 'As we initially finalised the agreement for 6 months.' Improving the use of transition words between sentences would help the text feel more cohesive and professional. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different topics.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'finalised', 'ongoing job', and 'unauthorised'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'extant' instead of 'extend', 'extand', 'aprtment', and 'unauuthhorised'. These errors are noticeable but do not impede the overall meaning of your message. To reach a higher band, you should focus on accuracy in spelling and attempt to use more precise collocations, such as 'secure a parking space' or 'address the parking issue' rather than 'bring an issue about'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'my employer has offered my full time ongoing job' (should be 'offered me a full-time job') and 'expecting at earliest from you' (should be 'expecting to hear from you at your earliest convenience'). Punctuation is generally functional, though some sentences are slightly awkward. While these errors are frequent, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your intent. Increasing your control over articles and verb agreement will improve your score.
