Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Owner,
I know that I signed an rent agreement for six months due to some circumstances, I would like to tell you that I wish stay in the apartment for longer than six months.
I would like to stay in the apartment for at least one year, due to unforeseen circumstances, I am unable to change this apartment because I got a new job which is not far from this apartment. Moreover, there are plenty of facilities in this apartment and within a month I can not find another rental apartment with this kind of facilities and less rental amount.
However, there are noisy neighbours in the apartment which creates problem for others and sometimes it is so annoying and disturbing to others. It can be fixed by applying strict regulations and penalty to disturbing people. I would be grateful if you could extend my lease agreement to one year.
I look forward to your favorable response

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: the duration of the extension, the reason for the change in plans, and the mention of a problem in the apartment. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal request to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation regarding the noisy neighbors could be more effectively linked to how it impacts your living situation or what specific action you would like the landlord to take beyond just mentioning penalties. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader is fully informed of your requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each serving a clear purpose. There is a basic progression of ideas from the request to the justification and finally the issue. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical. Phrases like 'Moreover' and 'However' are used correctly, but the flow between sentences could be improved with more varied transition markers. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences feel slightly disjointed due to the repetitive structure of the clauses. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication of your needs. You use some relevant terms such as 'lease agreement', 'unforeseen circumstances', and 'facilities'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'less rental amount' (better: 'lower rent') and 'signed an rent agreement' (should be 'a rental agreement'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repeating the word 'apartment' too frequently by using synonyms or pronouns.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For example, 'I wish stay' should be 'I wish to stay', and 'within a month I can not find' would be better phrased as 'I would not be able to find'. There are also minor punctuation issues, such as comma splices in the first paragraph. Despite these errors, the grammar does not impede communication, and you show an attempt to use complex structures to explain your reasoning.
