Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: stating the desired length of the extension, explaining the change in plans, and reporting a maintenance issue. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention the location is convenient, expanding slightly on how the new job specifically necessitates this move would have strengthened the response. The purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning, and the reader is left in no doubt about your intentions. To improve, ensure that each point is fully elaborated to demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'I also want to talk about' and 'because', which serve to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For example, the jump from discussing the apartment location to the heater issue could be smoother with a better linking phrase. Additionally, the use of punctuation is inconsistent, which occasionally disrupts the logical progression of your sentences. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring consistent paragraph structure will help you achieve a higher band score in this area.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your message effectively, such as 'agreement', 'convenient', and 'transportation'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'planed' instead of 'planned', 'extened' instead of 'extended', 'palce' instead of 'place', and 'solev' instead of 'solve'. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to housing and maintenance, and pay closer attention to the spelling of common words. Expanding your range to include more topic-specific collocations would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'we have signed five months ago' (incorrect tense usage), 'the heater is not workin g' (typo and missing article), and 'we are leaving on the 36 floor' (incorrect preposition and spelling). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency of your writing. To improve, focus on mastering basic verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles. Practicing the construction of complex sentences with accurate punctuation will also help you move to a higher band.
