Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the duration of the extension, the reason for the change, and the maintenance issue. However, the development of these points is somewhat uneven. The explanation regarding the parents' visit is clear, but the justification for the apartment choice is slightly confusing and lacks focus. The request for the lift repair is included, but the tone is a bit informal for a formal request. To improve, ensure that the purpose of the letter is stated more clearly in the opening and that the tone remains consistently professional throughout the correspondence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as the awkward transition 'As, during our lease'. Some sentences are fragmented or run-on, which disrupts the flow of ideas. For instance, the transition between the apartment facilities and the religious temple is abrupt. To reach a higher band, you should use a wider range of linking words and phrases more naturally to connect your ideas and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several spelling errors ('aggrement', 'agrred', 'monthes', 'becuase', 'sson') and word choice issues ('couple og monthes'). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable, though they do not completely impede communication. To improve, you should focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and expanding your range of vocabulary to include more precise terms for formal requests. Using more sophisticated collocations would also help elevate the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there is a high frequency of grammatical errors. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('which happen yesterday'), missing articles, and punctuation errors. The sentence structure is often repetitive and lacks the control required for higher bands. For example, 'if you could fix it as sson as possible that will be very great' is grammatically weak. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, consistent tense usage, and ensuring that sentences are complete and correctly punctuated.
