Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt: the duration of the extension, the reason for the change in plans, and the maintenance issue. The tone is appropriate for a formal request to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation regarding the work situation is a bit repetitive and could be more clearly articulated. While all parts of the task are addressed, the response lacks the depth and professional polish expected at higher bands. Nevertheless, the purpose of the letter is clear and the reader is fully informed of the writer's intentions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Therefore', and 'In addition' are used to link sentences. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between the explanation of the work situation and the request for an extension could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the overall structure is coherent enough to ensure the message is conveyed without confusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the message, but it is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'staying in your apartment' and 'stay for another six months' are functional but lack variety. There are some minor collocation issues, such as 'came in this city' (should be 'came to this city') and 'I would be appreciate' (should be 'I would appreciate'). While the student attempts to use formal language, the range of vocabulary is not broad enough to demonstrate the flexibility required for a higher band. The errors do not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am living for five months' (should be 'I have been living'), 'my plan have changed' (subject-verb agreement), and 'from last months' (should be 'for the last few months'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, though there are some issues with sentence boundaries and capitalization (e.g., 'i'). While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. A greater focus on verb tenses and subject-verb agreement is needed.
