Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Landlord,
I am writing this letter requesting to extend my stay beyond six month which we orginally agreed on.
Today, I would take the opportunity to thank you for all the facilities that you provided. I had originally agreed to stay here for six month but I would like to extent my stay for a year from now.
I would to extend my stay because of plethora of reason. First, because staying here feels like home and second, the breathtaking nature surrounding the appartment. Both of the above reason makes to change my mind to stay longer.
However, I am very dissatified about the leaks in the kitchen as well as the bathroom. I have mentioned it several time but, there was no action plan.
I would really appreciated if you could accept my request to allow me to stay longer and also take into consideration the problem about the leaks.
Thanks & Regards,
Reshma

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: stating the desired extension length, explaining the change in plans, and reporting the maintenance issue. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation for why your plans changed is quite brief and could be expanded with more specific detail to better justify the request. Additionally, the mention of the leaks is clear, but the letter would be more effective if you suggested a specific time for the repairs to be addressed, which would better demonstrate a proactive approach to the problem.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First' and 'However' to transition between ideas. While the structure is sound, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly. For example, instead of starting two consecutive sentences with 'I would', you could combine or vary your sentence structures to improve the overall cohesion of the paragraph.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'take the opportunity' and 'plethora of reasons'. There are some minor errors in word choice and form, such as 'six month' instead of 'six months' and 'dissatified' (spelling error). While these errors do not impede communication, they do suggest that you need to be more careful with pluralization and spelling. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and ensure that your word forms are consistently accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the letter, such as 'I would to extend' (missing verb), 'reason makes to change' (incorrect verb form), and 'mentioned it several time' (missing plural). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your modal verbs are followed by the correct infinitive form.
