Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: stating the desired rental duration, explaining the change in plans, and reporting maintenance issues. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a landlord. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding your mother moving in and your university studies is clear but could be expanded slightly to sound more professional. The request for a one-year extension is clear. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively, though more attention to detail in the explanation of your plans would improve the quality of the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. You use some basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Additionally', and 'However' to transition between ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by punctuation errors, such as missing commas and periods, which makes some sentences feel disjointed. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the structure within the paragraphs could be more fluid. Improving your use of linking words and ensuring consistent punctuation will help your ideas progress more smoothly and make the letter easier to read.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary to communicate your needs, such as 'agreement', 'renew', and 'consideration'. However, there are several instances of word choice errors or awkward phrasing, such as 'more couple of months' (should be 'a couple more months') and 'my mother planning to swift here' (should be 'move here'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do highlight a need for more precise vocabulary usage. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more natural collocations and ensure that your word choices are contextually accurate for a formal request.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
Your writing contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('my workplace not changed yet'), missing articles ('need lease'), and punctuation (frequent run-on sentences and missing capitalization for 'i'). While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and pay closer attention to standard punctuation rules, especially regarding the use of the pronoun 'I'.
