Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter as I want to live longer in this apartment. I know that my lease was only six months but i want extend it more six months. Moreover, I have changed my plans because I get my filed jobs near markham and lawrence intersection, thus it's nearby this apartment. After six months I will transfer my job to another location untill that time i want to live here.

Additionally, this apartment has all facilities which I want so, I think it is a perfect. Furthermore, I am ready to sign six months agreement as well as happy to provide my documents.

Yours faithfully,

401 Apartment

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the development of the required points. While you addressed the duration of the extension and the reason for the change, the third bullet point regarding the problem in the apartment was completely omitted. The letter is too brief to fully develop the ideas, leading to a fragmented presentation. To improve, you must ensure all three bullet points are addressed in detail and that the response meets the length requirement to allow for sufficient elaboration of your situation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter is organized into short paragraphs, which is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed due to the lack of sufficient content. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'Furthermore', the overall flow is hindered by the brevity of the text and the omission of key information. The referencing is generally clear, but the logical development of the argument is limited by the underdeveloped nature of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is functional but limited. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'live longer' and 'get my filed jobs'. There is little attempt to use more sophisticated or topic-specific vocabulary related to renting or property management. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'filed jobs' and 'it is a perfect'. To achieve a higher band, you should incorporate more precise collocations and a wider range of vocabulary suitable for a formal request letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors that affect clarity. Examples include 'i want extend it more six months' (missing 'to' and 'for'), 'untill that time i want to live here' (spelling error and run-on structure), and 'it is a perfect' (incorrect article usage). You rely mostly on simple sentence structures. To improve, you need to focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and the accurate construction of complex sentences. Proofreading for basic errors like capitalization of 'I' is also essential.
