Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear land owner,
I am writing this letter to inform about my renting application which will be complete next month. Although I leased your apartment for six month, now I want you to extent it for more than fixed time.
Five months ago, I rented this apartment for 6 months but due to some circumstances I have to live here for six more months. As you are not extending lease for one or two months I decided to upgrade for half year.
Unfortunately, I was planning to change the city because I got transfer in our other branch at my job . However, The process time got delay due to organization's protesting problem. Consequently, my transfer schedule for next year.
There is some problem I have noticed in the apartment. Apartment is well maintain and clean from inside , whereas there is some garbage and old electronics gedgets are thowing outside of our apartment. which is smelling very bad.
Kind regards,
Hardeepsinh Raj

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: stating the desired extension length, explaining the change in plans, and reporting a maintenance issue. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. The explanation regarding your job transfer is slightly confusing due to the phrasing, and the request for an extension could be more clearly articulated. While the tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, the content lacks the necessary detail to fully satisfy the requirements of a higher band. To improve, ensure that your explanations are logically connected and provide enough context for the reader to understand your situation clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure of your request. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Consequently', and 'Unfortunately' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly misused, such as in the third paragraph where the connection between the job transfer and the delay is unclear. Additionally, some sentences feel disjointed, and the transition between the request for an extension and the mention of the apartment problem is abrupt. Improving the flow between sentences would help achieve a more natural and professional tone.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'circumstances', 'organization', and 'maintenance'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and spelling errors that hinder precision, such as 'extent' instead of 'extend', 'gedgets' instead of 'gadgets', and 'thowing' instead of 'thrown'. The phrase 'protesting problem' is also unclear in this context. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the frequent errors in word formation and collocation suggest a limited control over more sophisticated vocabulary. Focusing on correct spelling and standard collocations will significantly improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter. Examples include 'I leased your apartment for six month' (should be 'months'), 'I got transfer' (should be 'a transfer'), and 'Apartment is well maintain' (should be 'The apartment is well maintained'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and verb tense consistency. While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and impact the overall quality of the writing. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and basic sentence construction.
